Assistant Director First Year and Transfer Program

The Office of First-Year and Transfer Programs at Syracuse University is seeking to hire an Assistant Director First Year and Transfer Programs who will plan and execute undergraduate international student orientation experiences both on and off campus and play a leadership role in coordination of on-line international orientation initiatives. In addition, the assistant director will coordinate social programs for first-year and transfer international students.

The staff will coordinate the recruitment, training, and selection of international orientation assistants. The assistant director will facilitate communications for incoming international students for print, web, and social media. This staff member will also support Syracuse Welcome and first-year experience initiatives for all incoming students as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in higher education or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years post-M.S./M.A. work experience in higher education or related field
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills
  • Cross-cultural competency skills as well as demonstrated experience working with and meeting the programmatic needs of a diverse student population
  • Proficiency in another language, particularly Mandarin or Spanish, is highly desired
  • Demonstrated proficiency in recruiting, hiring, training and supervising staff
  • Demonstrated experience in large scale event coordination inclusive of reviewing contracts, contracting vendors, ordering equipment, and scheduling staff
  • Knowledge and understanding of managing large event and departmental budgets
  • Skills related to marketing, communications, and social media
  • Ability to use technical software such as design programs and website content editing
  • Experience advising student organizations and providing individual advising to students
