Speech-Language Pathologist

CONTEXT OF THE JOB:

The Speech-Language Pathologist will play a critical role in assisting with directing the clinical education provided to graduate students in the Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSCD) program and development and implementation of innovative clinical care models in the UD Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic (SLHC).

Under the limited direction of the Directors of Clinical Education and Clinical Research and Services, the Speech-Language Pathologist provides leadership to a diverse team of speech-language pathologists and audiologists employed in the SLHC. The Clinical Specialist works directly with colleagues in CSCD to act as a liaison between graduate coursework and services provided through the SLHC, excelling in both program instruction and clinical service provision.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITES:
  • Performs academic, clinical, and administrative responsibilities consistent with the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA), federal/state regulations, practice setting requirements, and with institutional policy.
  • Provides high-quality services to a diverse range of clients with significant student involvement.
  • Supervises graduate students in clinical activities and services in the SLHC and community.
  • Teaches courses that are consistent with candidate's area(s) of expertise.
  • Collaborates with academic and clinical faculty to promote, coordinate, plan, and provide faculty development opportunities using effective instructional methodologies and technologies.
  • Partners with research faculty to design and implement translational research.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders within and outside of the University of Delaware community to create, plan, and implement inter-professional education opportunities.
  • Participates in service opportunities with the Department, University, and community at large.
  • Supports clinical and administrative objectives of the SLHC.
  • Develops and executes community outreach and education events.
  • Assists with management of revenue and expenses for clinical accounts, ensures expenditure control and compliance with funding and reporting requirements, University policy, and standard accounting procedures.
  • Maintains a current and working knowledge of developing practice trends and provides effective instruction to academic and clinical faculty as well as graduate students on these areas.
  • Represents the Communication Sciences and Disorders program at community, state, regional, and national events, and helps to educate the University and larger communities regarding the profession of Speech-Language Pathology.
  • Advocates on behalf of the program to develop new partnerships in healthcare.
  • Addresses the strategic goals and objectives of CSCD and the SLHC, as well as the overarching goals and objectives of the University.
  • Supervises external placements in conjunction with the Director of Clinical Education.
  • Recruits, supervises, and reviews performance of clinical supervisors and administrative staff in conjunction with the Director of Clinical Research and Services.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties and tasks as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology and a minimum of five years of clinical service, clinical and classroom teaching, student supervision and clinical coordination experience.
  • Certification as a Speech-Language-Pathologist through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Licensed or eligible for licensure as a Speech-Language-Pathologist in the state of Delaware.
  • Specialty Board Certification preferred.
  • Prior experience in university teaching, clinical supervision, and/or clinical administration preferred.
  • Advanced subject knowledge of clinical area(s) of expertise and field expertise preferred.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and work on multiple projects simultaneously, while managing competing priorities and overseeing the day-to-day effort of supporting professional staff, partners and students.
  • Effective communication, organization, interpersonal, problem-solving, and counseling skills.
  • Team-based, inter-professional practice and instructional skills.
  • Ability to prioritize, plan, and organize work independently.
  • Ability to think strategically and recognize innovative ideas and opportunities.
  • Knowledge of educational, management, and adult learning theory and principles.

  • Applies knowledge, best practices, policies and procedures to instructional and clinical service opportunities.
  • Ability to plan, develop, direct, implement and evaluate strategic communication plans, programs and activities applicable to a research-centered institution of higher education.
  • Knowledge and understanding of current issues and trends applicable to higher education institutions.
  • Computer skills to include word processing, email, PowerPoint, Excel, and preferably database and electronic medical records management systems experience.
