  • $57,505 - $88,208 per year, salary placement determined by documented education and experience; maximum salary step placement on the faculty salary schedule is Step 9

Cabrillo College's Health, Athletics, Wellness, and Kinesiology (HAWK) Division seeks a full-time, tenure track faculty member in Radiologic Technology who is dynamic, innovative, and equity-minded to join its staff as the Radiologic Technology Director/Instructor. The ideal candidate will share Cabrillo's commitment to educating its racially and socioeconimically diverse student population. Cabrillo College serves approximately 12,000 students per term, of which 44% are LatinX, 5% multi-ethnic, 3% Asian, 1% African-American, 1% Filipino, .25% American Indian or Alaskan Native, and .19% Pacific Islander as of Fall 2017. At Cabrillo, over 52% of students are students of color and 59% are economically disadvantaged. In 2006, Cabrillo College was designated an Hispanic-Serving Institution, reflecting the great responsibility that the College has to the educational attainment and economic well-being of the surrounding community. The successful candidate will join a Radiologic Technology Department dedicated to the use of curriculum responsive to the students it serves. These efforts include the use of pedagogical techniques that draw on culturally responsive approaches to teaching and learning.

About the Department:

The Cabrillo College Radiologic Technology (RT) Program is a two-year Associate in Science Degree program providing professional training for radiologic technologists. Radiologic technologists work in a professional environment at a hospital, clinic, or private office. Skill categories include patient care, positioning, operating X-ray equipment, film quality assessment, technical factors and interacting with the general public, ancillary workers, and physicians.

The RT Program is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) and the State of California Department of Public Health, Radiologic Health Branch. This program has earned the highest level of accreditation awarded by the JRCERT.

The RT Program holds an articulation agreement with California State University Northridge (CSUN). All core RT courses will transfer to this institution.

Examples of Duties

  • Organization, administration, periodic review, continued development, and general effectiveness of the program, and compliance with Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) "Essentials" (required by JRCERT "Essentials")
  • Evaluating and ensuring clinical education effectiveness through a schedule of regularly documented visits to the clinical education centers (required by JRCERT "Essentials")
  • The faculty member will also participate in curriculum development, and in the review and assessment of student learning outcomes and course success rates, disaggregated by race/ethnicity
  • Maintaining current knowledge of imaging techniques and educational methodology through continuing professional development (required by JRCERT "Essentials")
  • Review and maintenance of the process of student selection for admission to the program
  • Organizing and making arrangements for the annual radiologic technology graduation exercises
  • Assisting the appropriate college administrator in the evaluation of radiologic technology faculty
  • Evaluation of student performance, and assignment of grades, for all clinical courses in the program
  • Full participation in the meetings of the radiologic technology advisor committee; organization and documentation of regular meetings with college radiologic technology staff, including the clinical instructors
  • Maintaining the program curriculum including the timely submission of college curriculum forms as needed
  • Teaching didactic and laboratory classes in the Radiologic Technology Program
  • Participation in campus governance, faculty organizations, and departmental program review
  • Related duties as required or assigned
Responsibilities and Qualifications

Responsibilities for this position include teaching basic skills and college-level Radiologic Technology courses and serve as the Academic Director of the program. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable about culturally-responsible pedagogical techniques and effective practices for engaging African-American, LatinX, Filipino, and Native American students, who are historically underrepresented and underserved in traditional classrooms. The faculty member will participate in professional development activities that focus on equity, diversity, inclusion, and Guided Pathways.

Minimum Qualifications

  • California Community College Instructor credential in Health and Physical Care Services and related technologies OR
  • Bachelor's degree or higher AND two (2) years of professional experience OR
  • Associate's degree AND six (6) years of professional experience OR
  • The equivalent OR
  • A lifetime California Community College Instructor credential in Radiologic Technology
Equivalency

Candidates without the specified degrees listed above must complete and submit a Supplemental Application for Equivalency Determination (Download PDF reader). Additionally, candidates must provide documentation, as part of this application process, sufficient to convince the committee that the candidate possesses the equivalent of these minimum qualifications, including the depth and breadth of discipline knowledge plus general education.

Discipline-Specific Requirements/Licensure per the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology/JRCERT:
  • Should an applicant meet all but one (1) of the following JRCERT requirements, the JRCERT will allow up to one (1) year on the job for that one (1) requirement to be met:
    • Any Bachelor's degree AND
    • Credential in Radiography by the American Registry of Radiology Technologists AND
    • Three (3) years full-time professional experience as a radiographer AND two (2) years minimum experience as an instructor in an accredited radiography program AND
    • Proficiency in, but not limited to, the areas of curriculum design, program administration/evaluation, instruction and counseling
Required Professional Expertise:
  • Currency and depth of knowledge in radiologic technology
  • Knowledge of and commitment to teaching strategies and practices that enhance student success at community colleges, including effective use of technology
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to teach the courses or perform the duties effectively as described above
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate well with students of diverse academic, ethnic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds; gender identities; sexual orientations; and students with disabilities
  • Evidence of professional activities and service beyond the primary teaching assignment
  • Development and review of curriculum as well as including assessments of learning
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others
Experience:
  • Recent experience working with African-American, LatinX, Native American, and other racially minoritized students in the classroom, and and understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups within higher education and the field of Radiologic Technology shape patterns of participation and outcomes
  • Experience and skill with addressing issues of equity in the classroom
  • Experience and expertise in culturally responsible teaching in Radiologic Technology, particularly as it relates to the relevance of Radiologic Technology to students' lives, interests, and communities

  • Ability to drive to and engage in collaborative meetings with potential clinical site partners
  • Willingness to examine and remediate one's instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students
