Instructor/Assist Professor of Science (Chemistry)

ANTICIPATED FACULTY POSITION FOR FALL 2018
Position subject to budget consideration and approvals

Instructor/Assist Professor of Science (Chemistry)
Full-Time, 10 Month, Tenure Track

 

Reporting to Department Chair, full-time faculty prepare, present and evaluate classroom instruction, student assessments and related activities.

Essential Functions:

  1. Plan and teach Chemistry courses on any Rockland Community College site following a course syllabus; those courses may include day, evening, weekend and/or online courses;
  2. Fulfill all full-time faculty responsibilities as stipulated in the faculty contract;
  3. Maintain a proactive role in both on-campus and online academic and curricular development and review;
  4. Participate in outcomes assessment at the course and program levels;
  5. Endeavor to keep students informed of their progress through the timely return of comprehensible evaluations of papers, tests and other work as stipulated in the course syllabus;
  6. Maintain a high level of expertise in the subjects taught and participate in professional development activities;
  7. Employ a variety of methods of engagement, assessment and advisement that facilitate student mastery of course content;
  8. Assist in the recruitment and retention of students;
  9. Collaborate effectively with colleagues at all levels;
  10. Model inclusive excellence through specific actions that support the College’s diversity goals;
  11. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Education and Certification:
Master’s Degree in Chemistry or related field from a college or university accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization.

Experience:
College level teaching experience in the discipline.  

Preferred Qualifications:
Doctorate, community college teaching experience and the ability to teach more than one discipline.

Starting Rank and Salary:  Academic rank and salary are commensurate with credentials and experience.
