Assistant Vice Chancellor for External Affairs

Reporting directly to the Vice Chancellor for External Affairs, this Assistant Vice Chancellor assists in leading the sytem's external facing activities.  The purpose of this position is to provide strategic oversight and leadership in the areas of advancement and public relations.  The responsibilities are diverse, from developing strategic relationships with community, crafting and leading the development of campaigns, to understanding instiutional advancement standards to adeptly manuevering government and executive processes, to developing public realtions strategic plans and build general partnerships that benefit the system.  Assisting the Vice Chancellor in the creation and development of a system wide annual awards ceremony will be a critical component of the position.  The External Affairs division is unique in that all members of the division serve cross functionally as needed, particularly in fundraising activities and events, with the shared services of content development, graphic design, and administrative assistance.

Responsibilities:

Guiding instiutional advancement initiatives including fund development;

Collaborating with the team in the development of public relations strategies including marketing, promotion, and advertising of the system and its institutions, faculty, staff, and students as needed for the advancement of the system;

Leading the creation and management of corporate, governmental, and community support and partnerships;

This position is part of the strategic leadership team of the External Affairs Division.  This position will support and promote the system and Vice Chancellor's initiatives to external audiences and partners including statewide governmental, public and private entities

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Success obtaining funding, policy changes, or partnerships for higher education initiatives with local, state, and federal agencies;

Demonstrated achievement in external funding success (fundraising) in higher education environment;

Evidence of advocacy success and interpersonal skills to build strong relationships with community, business, and the media;

Awareness of the college and the higher education environment to prioritize public relations strategies including marketing, promoting, and advertising

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree;

10+ years' work experience at the director level or higher;

Demonstrated experience of a strongly established track record of succcess moving priorities with community and business groups, and governmental systems (higher education, government, and corporate entities);

Demonstrated experience with a succcessful program development and management at an institution(s) of higher education;

Proven established relationships with external partners including the aquisition of major donor support;

Evidenced experience in all facets of public/media relations and program promotion

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred major in journalism, general communication studies, marketing, or public relations;

10+ years' experience serving higher education in an upper level management position with responsibilities leading to measurable successes in advancement, promotion, media relations, government relations or combination of all.
