Position Summary Information

Job Description Summary

Lock Haven University invites applications for a full-time, temporary faculty position, Director of Student Teaching, to begin August 18, 2018 and ending May 24, 2019.

Essential Duties
  • The position will require meeting with students and program coordinators in each education program regarding application for student teaching, the placement of student teachers, and the placement of other teacher education candidates for field experiences.
  • Additional responsibilities will include duties related to accreditation of all teacher education programs at the university.
  • The base for the position will be located at the Lock Haven University Main Campus in Lock Haven, PA.
  • Additional requirements include: maintaining office hours and attending meetings including but not limited to Department meetings, The Council of Teacher Education, the Lycoming County Consortium and other meetings related to placement of student teachers.
  • This position may require development and teaching of courses online.
  • This position will require outreach and building relationships with local school districts.

Specific Duties

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, full time placement of student teachers and other teacher education candidates for field experiences, and essential duties related to the accreditation of all teacher education programs at LHUP . The director will be a member of a faculty department, and have responsibilities related to departmental and university work.

Minimum Qualifications (Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
  • A Masters degree in Education or a related field and 3 years or more experience teaching in the PreK-12 educational setting is required. Terminal degree is required for appointment as Assistant Professor, without the terminal degree candidate will be appointed as Instructor.
  • Certification in a basic educational subject, content, or grade level is also required.
  • FBI fingerprint check, PA Child Abuse, PA Criminal Background Check required.
  • The Director must travel to local schools as needed to coordinate placement of students in field experiences.
  • Working knowledge of NCATE / CAEP accreditation is essential for this position.

In addition to the responsibilities and qualifications listed above, the successful candidate must communicate well and perform well in an interview and/or teaching demonstration and successfully complete the interview process.

Preferred Qualifications
  • A PhD or equivalent in education or a related field and 3 years or more experience teaching in the PreK-12 educational setting is required.
  • Experience working with basic education administrators and teachers is highly desirable.
  • Work in or with international settings is desirable.
  • Certification or evidence of competency in online course development and/or teaching is preferred.

Background Clearances

In accordance with Act 153 of 2014 (HB 435), appointment is contingent upon completion of a satisfactory background investigation which includes, but is not limited to, Act 34, Pennsylvania Criminal Record Clearance; Act 151, Child Abuse Clearance; and Act 114, Federal Bureau of Investigations ( FBI ) Criminal Background Checks.

Appointment is provisional for a single 90 day period provided the "Arrest/Conviction Report and Certification Form" and verification of your application for the three background checks are returned to Deana Hill, Associate VP for Human Resources.

Annual Security Report (Clery Act)

The Lock Haven University's Annual Security Report and Fire Safety Report are now available on-line or in paper form by request. Federal law requires these reports to contain policy statements, crime and fire safety statistics for the university. The policy statements address the university's policies, procedures, and programs concerning safety and security, i.e. policies for responding to emergency situations, fire safety procedures and statistics, and sexual offenses, etc. Three years' worth of statistics is included for certain types of crimes that were reported to have occurred on campus, in on-campus buildings, or off-campus sites property owned or controlled by the university and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to the campus.
