The College of Medicine, Department of Surgery is looking for an Advanced Practice Provider within the Division of Surgical Oncology. TheAdvanced Practice Provider will provide outpatient and inpatient services in collaboration with a range of professionals. This position will support the University's mission and commitment to excellence and diversity in our students, faculty, staff and all our activities.

Function and Duties: Under general supervision from a designated administrator, assist in providing comprehensive, continuous, and personalized care to patients in the GI Surgical Oncology practice. Facilitate the delivery of health care as patient enters and moves through the health care system.

  • To provide medical care and treatment within established scope of nursing or physician assistant practice to hospital inpatients as assigned by and under the direction of the collaborating physician. The collaborating physician shall be available for direct communication for consultation and referral or arrange for the same medical coverage by a physician who is preapproved by the State Board of Medical Examiners in the same manner as the collaborating physician of record.
  • To coordinate plan of care, discharge and specialty referrals as appropriate to meet the age specific needs of the patient.
  • To plan and coordinate health care education for patient, family and other health care providers as needed.
  • Provide counseling to patients regarding preventative care.
  • To perform comprehensive physical examinations and assessments.
  • To interpret, analyze and evaluate patient's medical record and social data.
  • To perform and/or assist the physician with procedures in the clinic or operating room per collaborative agreement.
  • To coordinate and participate in performance improvement activities.
  • Conduct basic physical and psychosocial assessment of the individual and/or family. Assist physicians and other providers in delivery of care.
  • Order and interpret tests.
  • Diagnose and treat illnesses.
  • Manage common episodic and chronic illnesses and administer medication and treatments as prescribed.
  • Maintain accurate records.
  • Participate in research and development projects.
  • Responsibilities include clinical, research and teaching activities for medical students, residents and fellows.
  • Perform related duties based on departmental need.


Minimum Qualifications :

Master's degree in Nursing and three (3) years of related experience preferred. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Currently certified as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) with Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) Specialty by the Ohio Board of Nursing required. Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required or should be obtained within 30 days of employment. Depending on the unit/department, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) may be required.

Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Currently licensed as a Physician Assistant by the Ohio Board of Medical Examiners required.
