Assistant Director Resident Conduct & Community

The Assistant Director of Residential Conduct and Community Standards provides leadership, oversight and administration for the student conduct processes in Resident Education and Development.Additionally, the Assistant Director supervises student conduct processes within Resident Education and Development, responds to incidents that occur in university housing and resident education and development. Serves as a liaison between Resident Education and Development, University Housing, Office of the Dean of Students, and Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards. This position reports to the Associate Director for Resident Education and Development.

Characteristic Duties
  • Establishing goals for the conduct system that meet the needs of the residence halls
  • Monitoring and tracking hall staff case progress, auditing cases to ensure sanctions are being completed and cases are closed when appropriate
  • Reviews hall staff incident reports transferred to the Office of Conduct and Community Standards (OSCCS)
  • Works collaboratively with the Office of the Dean of Students, Office of Conduct and Community Standards, and Title IX on all departmental student conduct and community standards matters
  • Creates ongoing professional development for staff on best practices and trends in student conduct.
  • Develops and facilitates training on university policy, procedures and guidelines
  • Collects, maintains and distributes information on student conduct in housing including charges, turn-around time, demographics, outstanding cases and sanctions and behavioral trends
  • Investigating and ensuring timely intervention with residents of concern including the creation of intervention plans and follow-up to insure compliance with recommendations
  • Facilitating the department's efforts in managing student behavior concerns in coordination with (Office of the Dean of Students, Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards, Title IX, Public Safety, and Counseling and Psychological Services, offices as necessary)
  • Participating in processes enacted to set polices and/or develop procedures
  • Coordinating resources and materials for resident education
  • Assisting in the creation and completion of the annual goals of the Resident Education and Development team
  • Supporting the departmental residential curriculum including the review and use of assessment data
  • Other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor degree with five (5) years of experience; -OR- Associate degree with seven (7) years of experience; -OR- nine (9) years of experience. Experience must be administration, program management, and training; knowledge of ethics and legal issues in higher education pertaining to student conduct; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred qualifications
  • Master's degree in higher education, leadership, counseling, or related area plus three (3) years of professional experience.
  • Previous experience with adjudicating student conduct
  • Experience working in housing/residence education
  • Experience with conduct management software
