Augment a physician's ability to provide medical services to patients; collect and document data, conduct diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, order and schedule laboratory studies and professional consultations and provide direct patient care services.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

1. Performs and documents initial evaluation of new consults.
2. Under the supervision of the attending physician, provides subsequent direct patient care, including patient assessment and completion of patient care orders.
3. Completes written medical record documentation, including patient progress notes and hospital discharge summary.
4. Coordinates transfer/discharge planning process and appropriate post-discharge follow-up care.
5. Facilitates communication with internal and external health care providers, as directed by the attending physician.
6. Provides anticipatory guidance and counseling to patients/families.
7. Initiates and coordinates referrals to other health care team members or agencies as needed.
8. Provides education and serves as a resource for nursing staff and health careproviders in area of clinical expertise.
9. Participates in development and implementation of divisional and departmental quality assessment/improvement/research programs and processes.
10. Assists in recruitment of patients for trials.
11. Provides leadership to incorporate research findings into practice.
12. Participates in activities that enhance clinical expertise.
13. Submit charge slips for any services rendered when the physician is not present.
14. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements : Master Degree in Nursing required. Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner license required in addition to Board Certification.
