Associate or Full Professors (tenured): US Domestic Policy

SCHOOL OF PUBLIC POLICY AND ADMINISTRATION

Associate or Full Professors (tenured): US Domestic Policy

The University of Delaware's School of Public Policy and Administration (SPPA) has been identified by university leadership as a priority for growth and development. This will build upon its recognition as a comprehensive school of public affairs that integrates academic excellence with professional practice. The launch of our new Joseph R. Biden Institute will strengthen our role as a driving force in the formation and analysis of consequential domestic policy solutions to some of the nation's most compelling challenges. The creation of the Biden Institute, and the focus on domestic policy, will strengthen our tradition of integrating academic excellence with professional practice.

We invite applications for tenured positions at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. We seek candidates with excellent scholarly records who are interested in propelling the School's national and international reputations. The specific areas of domestic policy include social, health, economic, or urban policy (including "smart cities"), or policy analysis. Ideal candidates will have strengths in quantitative policy analysis, a record of success in securing external funding, and experience supervising graduate students. The start date for the positions is September 1, 2018.

Qualified candidates must have a Ph.D. degree at the time of application, and training in Public Policy, Public Administration, Economics, Social Work, Education, or related fields in the social/behavioral sciences. We also encourage applications from candidates in intellectual areas such as Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics and Statistics, and Epidemiology who have a strong record of domestic policy research and analysis. All candidates must have a scholarly record appropriate for the rank of tenured associate or full professor that includes substantial publications, an active research agenda, and successful teaching experiences.

SPPA engages faculty, professional staff, and students from a variety of disciplines and diverse backgrounds in the classroom, on public service project teams, and in collaboration with outside organizations. The School offers a Master of Public Administration (M.P.A.) in-person and online, an M.A. and Ph.D. in Urban Affairs and Public Policy, an M.S. and Ph.D. in Disaster Science and Management, and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Energy and Environmental Policy. Undergraduate degrees are offered in Public Policy, Organizational and Community Leadership, and Energy and Environmental Policy. In addition, the faculty of SPPA are pursuing the creation of a Master of Public Policy (M.P.P.) program to begin September 2018. Candidates will be expected to contribute to multiple SPPA programs.

The Biden Institute is the newest of the research and public service units affiliated with SPPA, which also include the Center for Applied Demography and Survey Research, the Center for Community Research and Service, the Center for Historic Architecture and Design, the Disaster Research Center, and the Institute for Public Administration. The successful candidate may seek appointment in one or more of these units. See http://www.sppa.udel.edu/.

Applicants should submit a letter of interest outlining their academic strengths and proposed contributions toward the above stated goals of prominence for the School, a current curriculum vitae, and contact information for at least three references. Additional information may be requested after initial review of applicants. The committee will begin reviewing applications December 15, and the searches will continue until the positions are filled. Submit inquiries, but not application materials, to Professor Dan Smith, Search Committee Co-Chair, at dansmith@udel.edu. Please do not send application materials to the search committee.
