Associate Director, Clinical Operations


Associate Director, Clinical Operations


The associate director provides vision, leadership and coordination for departmental and campus-wide clinical support related to mental health and psychological wellness. This position is responsible for developing clinical goals of Middlebury College Counseling Center and effective methods of counseling support and delivery within the department.

In addition, this position provides direct counseling, crisis intervention, and mental health outreach support to enhance the psychological and mental health welfare of students and the Middlebury College community.

Essential Functions:

Administration (40%)
  • Provides leadership in the formulation and implementation of policies associated with clinical operations.
  • Establishes, updates, communicates and pursues a vision for clinical support, including long-term and short-term goals, in consultation with the Executive Director, to ensure alignment with the campus needs as well as the department values and priorities.
  • Develops, coordinates, and reviews all clinical support provided by Counseling staff including quality assurance, risk management, policies and procedures regarding counseling, regular assessment and evaluation of counseling support, and intake and case disposition processes, while maintaining and promoting the highest ethical and professional standards commensurate with training, licensure, or certification.
  • Manages auxiliary counseling support systems as directed (e.g., ProtoCall, web-based and telepsychology support systems)
  • Supports the Administrative Associate in their duties related to scheduling, office allocation and scheduling, data collection, management, and reporting of the front office and related procedures.
  • Oversees and coordinates after-hours supports and subcontractor providing these services, including f/u, scheduling (with support of Admin Assoc), and integration with phone system (with support of Admin Assoc)
  • Directs and manages the department's use of the electronic health record.
  • Leads program evaluation efforts for the department. Collects analyzes and reports data and other information for assessment, evaluation and budgeting.
Direct Counseling (40%)
  • Provides psychological counseling and crisis intervention for students.
  • Maintains case notes and other documentation according to best practices and counseling policies.
  • Works collaboratively with others, including multidisciplinary mental health and College medical staff, deans and student life staff.
  • Demonstrates experience and expertise in cross cultural and multicultural individual, group counseling and outreach support.
  • Receives clinical and administrative support from the Executive Director.
  • Collaborates with Counseling Services of Addison County as necessary for continuity of care.
Supervision, Mentoring, and Training (10%)
  • Trains all new employees in the policies, procedures and daily operations of clinical counseling support.
  • Mentors all clinical staff.
  • Serves as a consultant for all clinical staff when dealing with complicated psychopathology, challenging ethical dilemmas, hospitalization and other critical care decisions.
  • Attends consultation meetings with other departments as needed.
  • Performs related responsibilities as necessary to properly assess and counsel students.
  • Must handle confidential information appropriately.
  • Maintains highest ethical standards according to Vermont statutes and standards in the mental health professions.
  • Maintains appropriate state licensing and/or certifications to practice in Vermont.
Outreach, Education, and Advocacy (10%)
  • Trains and supports residential life staff, faculty and others as needed.
  • Participates in campus and community workgroups and committees related to psychological well-being and mental health.
  • Conducts intentional outreach to relevant community partners and campus constituents.
General Responsibilities
Other duties as assigned.

Education
M.A., M.S., M.S.W., Ed,D, or Ph.D.in clinical field.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must maintain and update knowledge of current clinical assessment and counseling interventions and theories, and professional license and/or certificates. Must handle confidential information and abide to professional ethics, and Vermont and Federal laws.

Experience
3 – 5 years of clinical experience required.
