Description of Position
Diablo Valley College Library Department is seeking instructors to teach one or more courses in our library technology program on a part-time, hourly basis. The course subjects include: technical and access services, acquisitions, reference, school libraries and media centers, storytelling (using print and electronic materials), introduction to library technology, and cataloging.

Duties and Responsibilities
Adjunct Faculty duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
1. providing instruction in accordance with established curriculum, course outlines and class schedules;
2. creating and maintaining an environment which emphasizes learning, encourages free discussion of ideas and critical thinking;
3. evaluating progress of students concerning educational matters and grades student work;
4. meeting with students outside of class;
5. maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics;
6. maintaining current knowledge in the subject matter areas;
7. fulfilling professional responsibilities of a part-time/temporary faculty member;
8. maintaining accurate academic records;
9. performing other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualification-Education/Experience
The applicant must possess one of the following qualifications (earned degrees must be from an accredited college/university):

1. Any bachelor's degree and two years of related professional experience; OR

2. Any associate's degree and six years of related professional experience; OR

3. A valid California Community College Instructor Credential authorizing full-time instruction in library technology; OR

4. The equivalent. (If you believe that you meet the minimum qualifications via equivalency, please fill out the equivalency form.)

1. Teaching experience or other comparable work with adults.

2. Recent experience in a library setting.

3. Coursework, including continuing education, in library science or library technology.

4. Experience with current library technology.

5. Proven ability to communicate effectively with students and colleagues.

6. Experience working with or teaching people from diverse cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds who may have wide ranges of abilities and preparation, including the disabled.

Employee Benefits
Part-time instructors and non-instructional academic staff may be eligible for medical, dental and vision plan benefits at the beginning of their third semester. Eligibility requirements are based on the United Faculty contract for part-time instructors and non-instructional academic staff and include: 1) working for CCCCD in the current semester and 2) averaged 0.30 FTE of a regular faculty member's load for the previous two semesters with CCCCD . Medical and dental premium calculations are based on the previous semester FTE or load. Part-time instructors pay a portion for medical and dental and the full premium for the Vision Services plan per the United Faculty contract. Eligible part-time instructors and non-instructional staff may enroll in Kaiser, Anthem HMO , Anthem EPO , Delta Dental PPO , Delta Care and the Vision Services Plan during the open enrollment periods which occur at the beginning of the fall and spring semester.

Selection Process
Applications will be screened to ensure the applicant meets the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement.
1. The applications, cover letters, resumes, unofficial college transcripts, and other supporting materials submitted by all qualified applicants will be reviewed by a screening committee. Those who are deemed to possess the highest degree of desirable qualifications will be invited to the college at their own expense.
2. During the campus visit, each applicant will be interviewed and may be asked to conduct a demonstration appropriate to the discipline. Responses to the interview questions and demonstration will be rated by the interview committee.
3. Upon hire, the successful candidate must meet the conditions of employment. Finalists must provide verification of transcripts. TB test, physical examination, fingerprinting/conviction clearance and proof of identity and eligibility to work in the United States.

Foreign Degree and Credit Statement
In accordance with the United Faculty Contract, Article 20.3.1.3.2, all foreign degrees and credits used to meet the minimum qualifications must be evaluated by an approved National Association of Credential Evaluation Services ( NACES ) agency www.naces.org prior to the implementation of the equivalency process.
