Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Director, Leadership Annual Giving provides overall guidance and management of the Leadership Annual Giving ( LEAD ) program and team, including managing the appointment generation program run by student callers.

The Leadership Annual Giving program is responsible for the identification and solicitation of gifts of $2,500 to $50,000 from the University's alumni, friends, parents and constituents. Leadership Annual Giving supports all schools, units and programs to identify, engage and solicit the next generation of major gift donors.

The Director oversees for the day-to-day planning and administration of the Leadership Annual Giving program including driving fundraising activity related to solicitations, visits, cumulative major gift referrals, and qualifications. The Director will also manage a team of LEAD officers, and is responsible for recruitment, retention, performance management, coaching and development. Additionally, this position plans, implements and manages the appointment generation program, in which students will call prospects to schedule appointments on behalf of the Leadership Annual Giving officers. Further, the Director will maintain a limited portfolio of Leadership Annual Giving prospects.

The Director travels up to 20% locally and nationally and occasionally works in the evenings and/or weekends as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education (include licenses, certifications, etc.):
Bachelor's degree.

Experience:
Must have a minimum of six years of successful, progressive fundraising experience with at least two years of supervisory experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of fundraising principles and best practices.

Ability to cold call prospects, develop relationships and solicit gifts and be willing to serve as a generalist, soliciting support for multiple campus programs.

Must be detail-oriented with strong follow-up skills and be able to manage teams and demonstrate leadership abilities.

Must be organized and have the ability to manage more than one project simultaneously and a demonstrated record of completing assignments and meet tight deadlines reliably.

Must be a highly energetic professional with a track record of building relationships and work collaboratively with staff, colleagues, volunteers and prospective donors and to work cooperatively to achieve common goals within University Relations.

Must demonstrate the ability to represent the University in a highly professional and effective manner and to cultivate relationships with and solicit alumni and non-alumni friends of the University for gifts.

Demonstrated communications and interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on engaged listening and success working in a team setting.

Must be data-driven, proficient in Excel and like databases with proven experience in analyzing metrics, pulling data sets and running reports from a data base.

Preferences:

Experience working in a major, land-grant, research University.
Have knowledge of and enthusiasm for the University of Maryland.
Experience in Annual Giving and data management.
Project management skills.
