Director of Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program



Description:

The Department of Health and Human Performance at the University of Houston is seeking a Program Director for a proposed Doctor of Physical Therapy ( DPT ) program. The DPT Program Director will have a 9-month academic appointment as an Associate Professor or Full Professor (tenured) in the department and a 3-month summer administrative appointment, and must meet the University criteria for tenure and the academic rank of Associate or Full Professor in accordance with their prior teaching, scholarly and service contributions. It is anticipated that the DPT Program Director and DPT Director of Clinical Education will be appointed simultaneously. The Program Director will be responsible for recruiting additional program faculty in preparation for CAPTE accreditation and student enrollment, which is anticipated to begin fall 2019.

Essential: Physical Therapist; Meets CAPTE criteria to serve as DPT Program Director; earned academic doctoral degree (i.e. Ph.D, EdD, D.Sci or equivalent); holds a current physical therapist license to practice as a PT in any United States jurisdiction; ability to be licensed in the state of TX as a PT; minimum of 6-years full-time experience in higher education with at least 3 years in a PT educational program; maintains an active and (preferably) externally-funded research agenda; evidence of a productive research agenda through publications in the scientific peer-reviewed literature and/or external research funding; prior academic leadership position. Desired: Prior Program Director/Associate Program Director of accredited DPT program; knowledge of and experience with CAPTE accreditation standards; prior participation in professional education; at least 3-years full-time clinical experience as a PT; a research agenda that cuts across existing focus areas in the department (i.e. cancer, neurological disorders, aging, obesity/diabetes).

The successful candidate will provide strong leadership for the DPT program including, but not limited to, recruitment of new academic and clinical staff, program accreditation, program assessment and strategic planning, fiscal management, and faculty evaluation. The Program Director will also be expected to lead an independent, extramurally funded, interdisciplinary research program to advance clinical and scientific discoveries in PT-related research in collaboration with UH faculty members and researchers at other institutions.
