Assistant Professor - Mathematics and Computer Science


The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at St. John's University (New York) is seeking applicants for a full-time tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in Fall 2018.

The position is located in New York City on St. John's University's main campus in Queens. St. John's is a Catholic and Vincentian university that is consistently recognized for its outstanding academics, diverse student body, dynamic internship and volunteer opportunities, focus on student life, and diverse study abroad offerings. The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science offers B.S. and B.A. degrees in Mathematics and an M.A. in Applied and Computational Mathematics. Our location is convenient for participating in the many seminars in the area via public transportation, such as at NYU, Columbia University, the CUNY Graduate Center, and the Simons Foundation.

Applicants should possess a PhD in Mathematics or Computer Science. Preference will be given to candidates with evidence of teaching experience and a strong research program in Mathematics or Theoretical Computer Science. High quality teaching and research are essential for obtaining tenure in our department. Candidates will be expected to teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, produce high quality research, and to contribute to departmental service, including supervising student research projects.

The normal teaching load at St. John's is 9 credits per week (3 courses) each semester. Every year faculty are able to apply for a reduction in their teaching load to 6 credits per week (2 courses) for the purpose of intensive research and scholarship.
