Position Description:

The UNI Department of Political Science invites internal applications for the position of Department Head, appointment beginning August 1, 2018. This is a five year appointment with potential for renewal.

The Department Head reports to the Dean of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences. The Department of Political Science consists of 13 tenured and tenure track faculty. It enrolls approximately 150 undergraduate majors. It offers a range of courses in American politics, comparative politics, political theory and international politics. The Department awards B.A. degrees in Political Science, Public Administration and Political Communication, as well as minors in International Affairs and Politics and Law. At the graduate level, the Department administers an interdisciplinary Master's program in public policy.

The Department Head is responsible for the departmental budget, class schedules, evaluation of faculty, providing leadership and vision, and oversight of the general operations of the department. Normally department heads teach one course both fall and spring semesters.

Appointment is for academic year of nine months plus two-month summer assignment for additional administrative duties.

Education Requirements:

Candidates with a Ph.D. in Political Science, Public Policy or Government and International Studies will be considered.

Required Qualifications:

The Political Science department has a collegial atmosphere and seeks candidates who will support its democratic departmental culture that places a value on transparent, deliberative and participatory decision making about significant departmental matters, and that strives for equal treatment of faculty members. The Department is seeking applicants with a distinguished record of teaching, research, and service, and who are currently at the rank of associate or full professor. The successful candidate must show commitment to undergraduate and graduate education, and evidence of academic administrative experience such as department head, program director, committee chair or other leadership roles in academic or similar programs.
