Physics - Tenure Track Faculty Position

The Department of Physics at Old Dominion University ( ODU ) invites applications for a new tenure-track faculty position in Experimental Condensed Matter Physics with an anticipated start date of Fall 2019. This position is expected to be made at the Assistant Professor level but appointment at a higher level for exceptionally qualified candidates will be considered. Applicants must have a PhD or equivalent in physics or a closely related field, be able to teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels and supervise undergraduate and graduate students in research. The successful candidate will be expected to establish and develop a new externally funded program in Experimental Condensed Matter Physics. Preference will be given to applicants possessing a record of research accomplishments in low-temperature physics and investigations of electrodynamic properties of new superconducting materials. We are particularly interested in a new faculty member who can contribute to the ongoing interdisciplinary research at ODU in superconductors for particle accelerators, and initiate new research directions, both in traditional areas of condensed matter physics and emerging areas such as quantum information processes. This appointment will provide many opportunities for collaboration with the experimental and theoretical groups within the Department of Physics, ODU Center for Accelerator Science, and at the nearby Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility.

Minimum Qualifications - knowledge, skills, and abilities
Applicants must have a record of research accomplishments in Experimental Condensed Matter Physics, or closely related field, and
be able to teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels and supervise undergraduate and graduate students in research.
