CHIEF DIVERSITY OFFICER

Mount Holyoke College

CHIEF DIVERSITY OFFICER

SOUTH HADLEY, MASSACHUSETTS

Mount Holyoke College seeks a collaborative, strategic, and visionary leader to serve as its inaugural Chief Diversity Officer (CDO). The CDO will coordinate the College’s existing efforts in diversity, equity, access, and inclusion and introduce new initiatives. The CDO’s task will be to embed diversity and inclusion into Mount Holyoke’s curriculum, infrastructure, policies, and programs in a bold and strategic way. With the strong support of the College’s senior leadership, the CDO will serve as a catalyst to leverage the College’s diversity and resources to promote a culture of inclusion and foster a climate of inclusive excellence for the entire campus community.

Established in 1837, Mount Holyoke is the world’s longest-standing institution of higher education for women and is renowned for educating women leaders, from medical pioneers to Pulitzer Prize-winning playwrights. The College is a highly selective, diverse, non-denominational, residential, research liberal arts college, which also offers several coeducational graduate programs. It enrolls 2,200 students from 47 states and 57 countries. Twenty-nine percent of Mount Holyoke’s students are international citizens, and 27 percent of domestic students identify as African American, Asian American, Latinx, Native American, or Multiracial.

Reporting to the President, the CDO will serve as a member of the President’s cabinet and will work in partnership with other administrative leaders on campus initiatives focused on diversity and inclusion. This position will coordinate and work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and community partners and provide leadership and support on diversity, equity, and inclusion to other offices and departments.

The successful candidate will proactively advance Mount Holyoke’s aim of building and maintaining a campus environment that is inclusive, pluralistic, and free of discrimination. The CDO will implement the College’s strategic plan for diversity, setting priorities and short-term objectives while tracking progress towards long-term goals established by the President’s Initiative on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, begun in January 2017. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a record of accomplishment in managing change, building programs, and supporting initiatives that promote diversity, equity, access, and inclusion for students, faculty, and staff in a dynamic, academic environment. The CDO will demonstrate cultural competence and emotional intelligence and possess the ability to collaborate and form coalitions with a wide variety of stakeholders.
