Senior Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations

PAY GRADE: 34S

CONTEXT OF JOB:

The University of Delaware (UD) is entering the public phase of a comprehensive campaign. In preparation for this historic initiative, the Office of Development & Alumni Relations (DAR) has built a model fundraising infrastructure to meet the growing needs of the University and support the vision of our UD president, Dennis Assanis. With campaign priorities supporting students and faculty in areas like biopharmaceuticals, public policy, entrepreneurship, and community engagement, UD is forging ahead into a dynamic and enterprising future. DAR continues to expand our mission to engage donors, alumni, friends, parents, faculty, staff and students in a lifelong relationship and foster a tradition of philanthropy to strengthen the University's legacy as one of the great public institutions of higher education in America.

We are currently recruiting for a Senior Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations (CFR), who will manage a comprehensive University-wide program for partnerships with corporations and foundations. The Senior Director manages a high-performing program within the office of development and alumni relations, while working closely with the president, vice-presidents, provost, senior administrators, deans, and directors of development to maximize giving potential that will meet critical funding opportunities for the University.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Design, implement, and manage a proactive development plan focused on expanding and enhancing top level corporate and foundation partnerships by directing and coordinating activities related to obtaining multi-million dollar corporate and foundation funding and support, including working in partnership with all programs on campus that touch on these areas.
  • Lead and manage team of fundraisers. Assess staffing needs and make recommendations for adequate staffing relative to program goals.
  • Identify, cultivate and solicit high-end corporate and foundation prospects with a focus on prospects and gifts of $1M or higher.
  • Identify emerging business leadership and industry trends with a special emphasis on developing high value-exchange corporate alliances to garner larger philanthropic commitments to support the mission and goals of the University.
  • Work collaboratively with the president, vice presidents and senior leadership within the Office of Sponsored Research, the Office of Economic Innovation and Partnerships, and the Office of Career Services.
  • Develop highly competitive proposals for corporate and foundation prospects and leverage diverse corporate and foundation goals and preferences in conjunction with university goals. Monitor proposal deadlines, prepare and edit proposals, and manage proposal submissions.
  • Create and oversee the implementation of a high quality stewardship process for active corporate and foundation prospects and donors. Ensure that stewardship and reporting requirements are met to sustain successful partnerships by maintaining detailed records of solicitation activities.
  • Design and oversee implementation and maintenance of a prospect management/ tracking system, which identifies, assigns, rates and tracks high-end gift prospects, including corporations and foundations, and each development stage.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree and a minimum of eight years demonstrated successful corporate and/or foundation fundraising experience preferably in higher education. Fund-raising experience with corporations and foundations, preferably within the context of a capital campaign, resulting in major gifts ($100,000+). Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals. Ability to develop strategy as well as solicit prospects. Excellent organizational, interpersonal and networking skills with large groups as well as with individuals. Experience with grant and proposal writing at appropriate levels for varied proposal development. Previous management experience. Ability to use independent judgment and manage and impart information to a range of clientele. Skills in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Significant domestic travel is required. Evening/weekend work is often required.
