Tenure-Track Director of Kilby Laboratory School

The University of North Alabama is accepting applications for the position of Director of Kilby Laboratory School. The Director of the Kilby Laboratory School serves as the school-based administrator. The Director reports directly to the Dean of the College of Education and Human Sciences and works cooperatively with Lauderdale County Schools (LCS). The Director supervises all faculty and staff at Kilby School and complies with all state, federal, and accreditation regulations. The Director is responsible for mandatory reporting through LCS. The Director represents UNA at various professional meetings; oversees the budget; and coordinates professional development with UNA; and mentors UNA MAED and EDS Instructional Leadership interns. The successful candidate should have a deep understanding of a Laboratory School, research-based Best Practices, creative and innovative curriculum design supporting current and emerging technologies, and should embrace the concept of action research. This position is expected to begin no later than July 1, 2018 with preference for an earlier start date.

Minimum qualifications: Alabama Professional Educator certification in the area of Instructional Leadership (or eligibility for certificate through reciprocity) required; earned doctorate from a regionally accredited university required; five years of successful school-based and/or central office administrative/supervising experience and documentation of successful instructional experience including positive impact on student learning in education required.

Desired qualifications: Preference will be given to applicants who: have higher education teaching and/or administrative experience; have experience as a teacher and/or administrator in an elementary school setting; have a record of scholarly activity, understand the role of a lab school and action research; demonstrate evidence of community leadership and engagement.
