The Guthrie Clinic (www.guthrie.org) announces a national search for a Chair, Department of Medicine.

This position reports directly to the Executive Vice President, Medical Affairs and will serve as a key clinical leader and member of the senior executive committee within the Guthrie Clinic.

The Chair will support the framework of strategic and operational transitions related to population health and other value-based shifts occurring within the industry which focus on increased quality of care and cost reduction, enhanced patient experience and satisfaction metrics.

  • The Guthrie Clinic, is a non-profit integrated health care delivery system that currently includes; four (4) hospitals, over 500 physicians and mid-level providers, 32 regional provider offices in 23 communities, home health and home care services, and a Research Institute. 
  • Guthrie manages 1.2M patient visits a year and serves a population over a wide geographic area (11 counties and serves the Twin Tiers Region of Northern Pennsylvania and Southern New York.
  • In November 2015, Guthrie became the first health care organization based in Pennsylvania and New York to join the Mayo Clinic Care Network.
  • Academics are a distinguishing characteristic of the Guthrie organization and Guthrie's commitment to learning and education includes; Internal Medicine Residency, General Surgery Residency and Family Practice Residency program
  • A major key element of success for the health system’s transition will be -  from being an excellent regional health system to become a comprehensive teaching hospital and the development of a vibrant GME program is one key part of a system wide effort to evolve into a comprehensive teaching environment. 

Qualifications

  • M.D. or D.O.; Board certification in Internal Medicine and/or one of its subspecialties.
  • Minimum of 10-15 years of postgraduate clinical experience in the field, gained within a major teaching hospital or academic medical center environment.
  • Five or more years of successful and progressive leadership experience in a Chair, Associate Chair or Division Chief role.
  • Academically eligible for faculty appointment at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine.
  • Will be strong physician leader who can build on the clinical, education and future research excellence of the Department as well as demonstrate a passion for its role in graduate medical education.
  • Will be a forward-looking leader, comfortable in a highly matrixed environment with several well-defined service lines, deriving satisfaction from contributing to organizational success as much as that of the Department itself.
  • Will be a recognized physician leader with a deep knowledge of clinical practice; a strong commitment to training & career development in clinical care; and demonstrated leadership and administrative ability.
  • Will be a consensus builder, while also capable of serving as an agent for change. The Chair must be both advocate for the Department and a principle-centered institutional leader.
