Assistant Professor of Graphic Design

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Houston-Downtown invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Graphic Design to begin August 2018.  The successful applicant will teach within an interdisciplinary BA in Fine Arts program that includes concentrations in art, drama, and music, along with minors in arts administration, art, and drama in order to prepare students to enter Houston’s vibrant arts industry.

Assistant Professor of Graphic Design, tenure-track, University of Houston-Downtown (UHD).  Begins fall semester, 2018.  Course load includes teaching 1st and 2nd semester graphic design (ART 1307 - Computer Graphic Design and ART 3305 - Advanced Computer Graphics) and courses in related areas based on the applicant’s expertise.  Applicants able to teach both studio and lecture courses are required.  While open to students throughout the university, the position primarily supports the Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art, a major within the Department of Arts and Communication.  Additional responsibilities may include coursework within the Department of English both in their Professional Writing major and Digital Media Minor.  The ability of the successful candidate to present new courses that help expand the curriculum and/or university degree offerings is a welcome asset. 

 

The individual is also responsible for professional creativity/research that contributes to her or his field.  Additional responsibilities include participation in departmental, college-wide and university committees. MFA or terminal degree required; teaching experience preferred.  The successful candidate will join a newly formed Arts and Communication Department recently designed to accommodate consistent growth in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.
