Assistant Professor of Communication Studies

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Houston-Downtown invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Communication Studies in Organizational/Corporate Organization to begin August 2018.  The candidate will join the Department of Arts and Communication and teach within rapidly growing program offering a B.A. in Communication Studies with developing concentrations in Corporate Communication, Rhetorical / Public Communication, Interpersonal Communication, and Health Communication, along with minors in Communication Studies and interdisciplinary minors in Film Studies, Religious Studies, and Gender Studies.

 

Assistant Professor of Communication Studies – Organizational/Corporate Communication [FAC000318]

 

Course load includes teaching a range of undergraduate communication courses with a special focus in organizational and corporate communication, such as Organizational Communication, Communication and Leadership, and Training and Development. Additionally, the successful applicant will teach a range of undergraduate communication courses including Communication Theory, Research in Communication Studies, Introduction to Communication, Beginning Public Speaking, or other supplemental areas.  The ability of the applicant to sustain an active research agenda in Organizational/Corporate Communication and to display an ongoing commitment to committee work and community involvement is critical.

Candidates with research interests in an area of Critical Race Studies will be especially attractive. Success with grant writing would also be considered advantageous.

Qualifications:

Although a Ph.D. in Communication Studies is desirable, ABD's will be considered with the provision that a hiring contract is conditional upon the university receiving proof of completion of the Ph.D. no later than February 1, 2019.
