Maker-in-Residence

Job Summary
Skidmore College invites applications for a one-semester appointment as a Maker-in-Residence for the 2018 spring semester. We are particularly interested in candidates from under-represented groups who can add to the excellence and diversity of our academic community. The position is part of a two-year Arthur Vining Davis Foundations planning grant for a new makerspace on campus (the "IdeaLab"). The specifics of the job responsibilities are fairly flexible and will depend on the expertise of the successful candidate. Ideally, though, the Maker-in-Residence will teach one course and work closely with students and faculty to develop others. The Maker-in-Residence will also help coordinate a temporary makerspace on campus - The Hub - and will develop projects and programming for that space. As the co-coordinator of The Hub, they will organize the schedule and materials to provide access for students, faculty and staff. The co-coordinator will also help hire, supervise and train student work-study interns in the safety protocols for studio use.

We are looking for a Maker-in-Residence who can create a space for encouragement, collaboration, and exploration through inclusive programming and community partnerships. We seek candidates who will contribute to our ongoing efforts to engage and support students from diverse backgrounds.

The Maker-in-Residence is a part-time, grant-funded position, which includes a significant stipend and a budget for food and housing.

Minimum Qualifications
We are looking for a maker who has experience with low and high fidelity modes of making and at least a Bachelor's degree in Arts & Sciences, Engineering or related field.
