ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR FOR DEVELOPMENT

Description: Southern Illinois University Carbondale invites applications and nominations for the position of Associate Director for Development (Director of Development, SIU Foundation) (College of Business). The successful candidate will orchestrate and execute the advancement of relationships with prospective donors through appropriate stages of qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship culminating in philanthropic support. This position will be assigned to SIU’s College of Business.
Performance Expectations: Secure $500,000+ annually in new gifts & commitments. Manage a portfolio of 75-120 prospects. Conduct 80-150 substantive face to face personal visits per year, qualifying 40-60 new major gift prospects annually, submitting 10-20 major proposals/year. Become familiar with and understand key initiatives of the university relating to faculty, students, instruction and research. Prepare proposals and gift agreements as required for proper gift documentation. Ensure effective records maintenance, including timely filing of requests for prospect assignments, prospect strategies and contact reports using SIU Foundation’s prospect management system. Extensive travel, including nights and weekends required.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and a minimum of two years' successful professional experience in fundraising or related non-profit organization work, alumni relations, PR/Marketing, or closely related field. A Bachelor's or Master's degree in nonprofit management or closely-related subject may be substituted for the two years of experience. Must have a valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications: A Master’s degree. An ideal candidate will possess proven leadership and organizational skills, experience with comprehensive campaigns, a strong record of success in raising significant major gifts; and the willingness to develop a comprehensive development program that continually surpasses goals and overcomes obstacles. Higher education advancement (development or alumni), healthcare, or arts organization experience preferred.

Compensation: The salary for this position is commensurate with qualifications and experience; there is an excellent fringe benefits package.
