Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Assistant Director of Development, Corporate and Foundation Relations, is responsible for conducting and managing development activities with corporations and foundations under the supervision of the Senior Director, Corporate Relations. These development activities will focus approximately 30% of the time on fundraising for the ACES program (Advanced Cybersecurity Experience for Students), with 70% of the position's time focusing on providing fundraising assistance in corporate and foundation relations to all areas of the university, including other cybersecurity programs such as MC2 and MaGIC. In response to evolving needs and opportunities, this individual will develop subject matter expertise in targeted, specific areas, such as cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, machine learning, augmented reality, virtual reality, and quantum. The Assistant Director will strengthen relationships with current and prospective funders, solicit gifts, steward gifts, and oversee fundraising events. The Assistant Director will also work collaboratively with the Director of the ACES program.
On behalf of corporations, the Assistant Director may be responsible for liaising across campus regarding topics including recruiting, sponsored research, executive or employee training, intellectual property and "tech transfer", and all manner of philanthropic donations.
This position requires the ability to travel and to attend evening and weekend events and programs.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education (include licenses, certifications, etc.):
Bachelor degree required.
Experience:
A minimum of five years of successful fundraising and stewardship of corporate and foundation donors and sponsors. Some proposal and grant writing experience required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to synthesize complex material and have great attention to detail.
Ability to manage many projects simultaneously, and a demonstrated record of completing assignments.
Strong customer service ethic and experience overseeing successful stewardship events and activities.
Aptitude to represent the University in a highly professional and effective manner.
Ability to work with high-level corporate and foundation representatives; building donor/customer and prospect relationships and developing stewardship activities.
Ability to solicit and close gifts and/or grants of six figures or more.
Ability to independently manage competing priorities in a complex and dynamic environment.
Preferences:
Experience in a complex research institution or academic environment (specifically higher education).
Exposure to and interaction with the cybersecurity industry.
Experience working with senior executives, volunteers, senior administration, and faculty.
