Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

Reporting to the Executive Director of Development, Major Gifts in University Relations with a dotted line to the Dean of the School of Public Health ( SPH ), the Assistant Dean of Development is the chief fundraiser for SPH . Carrying a portfolio of 100+ prospects and current donors, s/he will secure major gifts (50K+) to support the Dean's priorities for the College. S/he is responsible for developing and implementing prospect strategies for individuals, corporations and foundations from qualification through cultivation, solicitation and stewardship. S/he is responsible for meeting visit, solicitation and money raised metrics. This position will also coordinate volunteer activities and provide development support and counsel to the Dean of the College and to the academic and volunteer leadership.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record as a successful hands-on fundraiser who is skilled at closing gifts and taking the lead in identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major gift level individuals, corporations and foundations. This position will carry its own portfolio of prospects with prospect visit goals of 12-15 per month and 2-4 solicitations per quarter in addition to work with major prospects, and will be responsible for signature College events designed to maximize strategic engagement for alumni and friends of the College. It is anticipated this position will also work closely with the Directors of Planned Giving and Corporations and Foundations to secure gifts on behalf of the College. Travel and occasional weekend and evening hours are required.

The successful candidate will be a hands-on, innovative fundraiser with a proven track record in identifying sources of support, creating and implementing prospect strategies that end in successful solicitation, and closing major and principal major gifts at the individual, corporate and foundation levels. S/he will be goal-oriented and experienced in engaging academic and volunteer leadership. S/he will be skilled at collaborating with a variety of stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education (include licenses, certifications, etc.):
Bachelor's degree required.

Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in major gift fundraising with a successful track record of closing six-figure gifts is required.

Interest in and general understanding of health and human service matters both domestically and internationally, and/or an interest in public health involving public, private and non-profit institutions.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must be an entrepreneurial and strategic fundraiser with a proven track record in securing major gifts with individuals, corporations and foundations, in identifying and building constituencies for support, in setting and achieving individual and group goals, and in planning and executing campaigns.

Knowledgeable about best practices in the advancement field.

Must be an energetic and organized self-starter who is capable both of working independently and in a team environment.

Must have outstanding communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively across the university for the enhancement of the donor experience.

While university experience is not a requirement, the candidate must have an appreciation for the academic experience and activities of a major research university.

Exceptional, verbal, editing, management and organizational skills are essential.

Preferences:

Master's degree preferred.
Development experience within a University environment is preferred.
Experience fundraising for health and human service related organizations is also preferred.
Experience in raising funds through planned giving is desirable.
Familiarity/experience in a public research university is helpful.
Interest in public health issues and sense of humor are desired.
