NURSE SPECIALIST

Job Description: Nurse Specialists are skilled practitioners in the treatment and care of specialized or acute and critically ill patients. Utilizing considerable knowledge of the specialty area, employees provide comprehensive nursing care through independent nursing assessment and evaluation of patient conditions. In research, responsibilities include administering protocols and providing advanced level technical advice on the condition of patients. The research oriented nurse specialist serves as a liason for the physician PI.

The primary purpose of this position is to provide support for clinical research and technical assistance in the research trials conducted by the Division of Infectious Diseases physicians. This position assists with the administrative and patient care activities required by the research studies. The incumbent will have knowledge of all study protocols, recruit study participants and perform patient testing as directed by the physician/prinicipal invesigator in accordance with Food and Drug Administration, ECU Institutional Review Board, study sponsor and principal investigator guidelines and regulations. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to case manage patients, document history, schedule testing and maintain open communication with patients and physicians and advanced practice professionals (i.e., Nurse Practitioners and Physicians' Assistants). The incumbent will be knowledgeable abot the right of patients as study subjects, maintain required study records, educate patients and conduct clinical procedures. The candidate will interact with the study sponsor representatives as directed by division physicians. This individual is responsible to the physician/principal investigator (PI).

The ECU Brody School of Medicine is affiliated with Vidant Medical Center. Vidant Medical Center is the flagship hospital for Vidant Health and serves as the teaching hospital for the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University.


Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from state-accredited school of registered nursing and two years of nursing experience, with at least one year in the assigned specialty area. Must have a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.


Special Instructions to Applicants: This position is subject to the Broad Banding Salary Administration Plan. Pay will be commensurate with applicant's competencies as well as budget, equity, and market considerations.

Department may consider applicants at 32 hours a week.
