Asst Professor, Science, Technology & Innovation

Arizona State University’s School for the Future of Innovation in Society (SFIS) seeks an assistant professor (tenure track) in the humanities, social sciences, or interdisciplinary studies with a focus on science, technology, or innovation. Specifically, we seek candidates whose research and teaching emphasize the diverse places, peoples, and issues of the Southwest region along the US-Mexico border.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to SFIS programs that reflect and implement the school’s motto, “the future is for everyone,” critically evaluating and creating more inclusive models of innovation that reduce inequality and significantly improve outcomes and success for communities. Guided by the ASU Charter (https://president.asu.edu/about/asucharter), SFIS is committed to enhancing the accessibility of science and technology, their advancement of public value, and their contributions to improving the economic, social, cultural, and overall health and wellbeing of the communities ASU serves.

Required: Candidates must hold a PhD in a relevant field at the time of appointment. Candidates must demonstrate evidence of the ability or potential to: collaborate with colleagues from different disciplines; inspire and instruct students from diverse backgrounds; and communicate in and across multiple cultures and with diverse communities. Candidates must have experience with scholarship, education, and/or engagement in the Southwest borderlands region.

Desired: Experience with online learning environments.

As an important element of ASU’s approach to building a “New American University” (http://newamericanuniversity.asu.edu/), SFIS (http://sfis.asu.edu) provides robust opportunities for intellectual fusion, use-inspired research, and global engagement via ongoing projects and centers. SFIS hosts a variety of doctoral, professional, and undergraduate degrees and certificates. SFIS also works closely with the Consortium for Science, Policy and Outcomes (CSPO; www.cspo.org)—consistently ranked one of the top science and technology policy think tanks in the world—and the emerging Institute for the Future of Innovation in Society.

To apply, please submit:

  1. A detailed cover letter that includes a description of the applicant's scholarly, educational, and engagement interests and experience (limited to 4 pages). Candidates should familiarize themselves with the educational and research initiatives, programs, and opportunities at SFIS and describe in their letter how their work could contribute to them.
  2. A current Curriculum Vitae.
  3. The names, email addresses and telephone numbers of three references.

All materials should be submitted as a single PDF document to sfis@asu.edu and the email should indicate Job #12120. Review of applications will begin Monday November 13, 2017 if not filled, a review will occur every Friday thereafter until the search is closed. A background check is required for employment.
