PT Hourly POOL - Instructional Assistant, Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (DMS)


Definition
NOTE: This is an instructional support position. This is not a faculty position.

Under general supervision, to assist an instructor of diagnostic medical sonography in the preparation of instructional materials and in laboratory demonstrations; to operate and demonstrate specialized instruments and equipment, assist instructor in lab teaching of sonographic exams and to perform related work as required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  1. Assist in laboratory set up, including powering up equipment, retrieving transducers setting up equipment, dispensing equipment, observing students using equipment; assisting students while they perform sonographic exams, and assist teacher as needed.
  2. Set up specialized instruments, equipment, and demonstrations; maintain specialized instruments and equipment in good condition.
  3. Issue equipment and supplies to students (printer paper, gel, anatomical models, texts, etc.)
  4. Assist in the preparation of equipment and supplies budget.
  5. Consult with vendors regarding supplies, materials and equipment needs.
  6. Keep records and documentation on equipment, instruments and supplies necessary for the lab and determine where to obtain them when needed.
  7. Assist in planning and preparation of instructional technology.
  8. Assist in ordering supplies.
  9. Assist in grading, scoring and marking of tests from an answer key. Notify students of test results.
  10. Provide information on resources available to students.
  11. Demonstrate and maintain a check on safety procedures in the laboratory.
  12. Direct students in emergency procedures and observe/enforce shop, laboratory and student center rules.
  13. Demonstrate or describe the proper operation of equipment, instruments and supplies used in lab work.
  14. Make minor repairs and adjustments to laboratory related equipment.
  15. Perform general clerical duties related to the maintenance and efficiency of a laboratory/tutorial center and classrooms.
  16. Operate and instruct others in the use of instructional technology.
  17. Perform other related work as required such as errands on campus.

Qualifications and Physical Demands
Knowledge of:
  1. Must be a diagnostic medical sonographer (ARDMS); must be credentialed in either OB/GYN or Abdomen
  2. English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
  3. Basic math.
  4. Simple record keeping.
  5. Proper methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the assigned learning laboratory.
  6. Appropriate safety precautions and procedures.


Ability to:
  1. Properly set up, operate and demonstrate the correct operation/handling of related materials and equipment used in the assigned learning lab.
  2. Operate and perform minor routine maintenance to modern technology
  3. Compose correspondence.
  4. Perform basic college level work in the assigned academic field.
  5. Perform basic math.
  6. Maintain simple records.
  7. Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  8. Establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Education and Experience:
Completion of two years of college with major course work in DMS or the equivalent.
Two years experience in an instructional setting preferred but not required. Or, any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities.

Licenses or other requirements:
Some positions in this classification may require a valid California driver's license, American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) registry, possession of a certificate of completion from an accredited college or agency relative to the assigned area. Continuing education, training or certification may be required.
Conditions of Employment
Employment is on a part-time, temporary basis and contingent upon verification of employment history, background verification as governed under Education Code requirements, eligibility to work in the
United States, and approval by the CCCD Board of Trustees. Short term/temporary assignments do not offer fringe benefits or pay for holidays or time not worked and are limited to 28 hours per week.

This is a short-term, CONTINUOUS recruitment for an applicant POOL to fill part-time, temporary, hourly assignments on an as-needed basis. We accept applications all year long. Departments or Divisions will refer to the POOL of applications on file, as needed, to fill temporary assignments.

The normal hours of work will be based on the needs of the department, Monday through Friday. However, some flexibility such as evenings and week-ends will be required to meet the needs of the department. The effective date of employment will be arranged with the supervisor.
