Faculty Position in AMO Experiment

The Department of Physics at the University of Maryland invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor in AMO experimental physics. A more senior level position may be considered for exceptional candidates.  

The University of Maryland College of Mathematical and Natural Sciences is home to major research efforts in quantum science through the Joint Quantum Institute (http://jqi.umd.edu/) and the Joint Center for Quantum Information and Computer Science (http://quics.umd.edu/). This position will be part of a new effort focused on quantum technology, in conjunction with the College of Engineering, which will also be searching for new faculty in this area.

Candidates should have a demonstrated ability to conduct independent research, strong communication skills and capacity for physics education, and potential for leadership within the research community. We expect that successful candidates will complement the existing experimental and theoretical strengths in the department. The preferred starting date for the position is August of 2018.

Minimum requirements: A Ph.D. in physics or a physics-related discipline and independent research experience. Good teaching is a high priority of the Department, and a potential for teaching excellence is necessary.
