Director of Student Involvement

In collaboration with our colleagues across campus, we prepare students to succeed academically, professionally and personally, to embrace a commitment to lifelong learning, and to become informed, engaged, and productive citizens.

Student Involvement (SI) is responsible for direct advising of Student Government and the Union Activities Board. In addition, SI provides oversight and organization development for more than 700 registered student organizations along with managing the Woodward Student Involvement Center and the co-curricular program.

NC State is seeking an energetic, innovative, student-centered leader for the position of Director of Student Involvement.

Responsibilities:
Ensure effective advisement of Student Government including the Executive and Legislative Branches and the Student Body Treasury.
Ensure effective advisement of the Union Activities Board consisting of the Black Students Board; Diversity Activities Board; Films, Issues and Ideas; Concerts and Entertainment; Leisure and Recreation; and the UAB Communication Team.
Provide leadership and vision for more than 700 active student organizations, including organization registration, officer training and organizational advising.
Provide leadership for the implementation and oversight of the co-curricular program.
Oversee compliance of Policies Rules and Regulations (PRRs) related to the use of university space and student organizations.

Administration:
Provide leadership for student involvement on campus and create a collaborative team environment focused on promoting student engagement and success.
Provide supervision for the full-time staff currently consisting of two Associate Directors, three Program Coordinators, two graduate assistants, an office manager, and student involvement specialists.
Develop long-term strategies and goals for student involvement that prioritizes connections between in and out of class learning and ensure effective assessment of student learning and organizational outcomes.
Promote student success through student leadership programs and resources that promote social, cultural and educational programming at NC State.
Facilitate collaboration toward shared goals between units within DASA.
Develop mutually beneficial partnerships with local and international communities and organizations.
Create an environment that prioritizes programming goals that reflect a commitment to diversity and sustainability.
In partnership with unit personnel and other key university stakeholders, develop protocols to ensure appropriate risk assessment and liability reduction.
Provide leadership and vision for an organization network of more than 700 active student organizations, including organization registration, officer training and student organization advising.
Develop and execute a vision for the physical space of the Woodward Student Involvement Center.

Student Development:
Create innovative activities that stimulate, motivate, educate, and involve the student body while promoting student learning and student success.
Work in collaboration with Center for Student Leadership, Ethics & Public Service (CSLEPS) to oversee the development and enhancement of programs for student organization leaders that teach leadership skills, ethical decision-making, and prepare students to be socially responsible global citizens.
Champion students in challenging leadership roles that provide meaningful opportunities to practice their leadership skills and impact change on campus and in the community.

Budget:
Oversee multiple student fee budgets and other receipts totaling over $1.5 million.
Work with unit personnel to implement a development plan to secure necessary resources.
Ensure student organizations are in compliance with all relevant state and university policies.

- Master’s degree in Higher Education, Counseling or related field
- 5+ years professional experience working with students in a higher education setting or related experience with a focus on leadership development and civic engagement
- 3+ years in a supervisory/management position

- Demonstrated ability to develop a shared leadership vision with staff, student leaders, and campus and community partners.
- Prior staff supervision experience and demonstration of superior management and sound decision making ability.
- Experience working in a student-centered environment including demonstrated understanding and application of student development theory.
- Business process and budget management experience.
- Demonstrated skill working with diverse populations.
- Outstanding judgement and ability to help students and staff develop protocols for effective risk and liability management.
- Superior written and oral communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Skill in problem solving and data-driven decision making.
- Knowledge of national trends and best practices in higher education, student leadership and civic engagement.
