Qualifications--
Required: Ph.D. in Rhetoric/Composition, Technical Communication, or related field by start of appointment. Experience teaching undergraduate and/or graduate writing courses to a wide range of students. Demonstrated commitment to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching, and other comparable experience. For appointment to Assistant Professor, demonstrated potential for teaching and research excellence related to the position. An established record of successful teaching, peer-reviewed scholarship, and service are required to earn tenure if appointed as a probationary faculty member.
Preferred: Experience and expertise in current workplace writing practices (editing, copyediting, copywriting) and technology (graphics, audio, and video) including production, content management, and publishing tools. Workplace/industry experience highly desirable. Experience, expertise, and ability to teach in one or more of the following secondary areas preferred: Digital writing and rhetoric; Technical communication; Multimodal composition; New media; Modern English grammar; and multilingual writing.
Responsibilities:
Collaborate with Professional and Technical Writing Program Director to build, expand, and improve program
Teach entry-level and advanced writing courses, with the potential for teaching graduate-level courses. Develop and teach courses in field of expertise as well as other areas of Rhetoric and Composition.
Contribute to and work with other writing faculty and administrators in a multi-faceted, comprehensive writing program that includes First-Year Writing, Stretch English, Professional/Technical Writing, Writing Across the Curriculum, a Writing Center, a Writing Fellows Program, and graduate (MA) offerings in composition and rhetorical theory, cross- cultural literacies, and TA training.
Serve on departmental, College, and University committees, especially those related to writing.
Engage in professional and scholarly activity centered on writing at the national level.
Address the needs of a highly diverse student population—in age, ethnicity, cultural background,
primary language, and academic preparation—through course materials, teaching strategies, and advisement.
Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Starting Date: August 17, 2018
