The Department of Literature within the Division of Arts & Humanities at the University of California, San Diego (http://literature.ucsd.edu) is committed to excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body. In that commitment, we seek candidates for an Associate or beginning Full Professor in Cross-Genre Creative WritingTransnational Prose & Poetics, with emphasis on bilingual (or multilingual) literary expertise. The candidate will have an MFA, a PhD, or both, and will publish literary art and literary scholarship. More specifically, we seek an advanced colleague with the proven capacity to create discourse-changing literary art, plus new and significant research in modernist and/or contemporary independent literature, including poetics, prosody, and the interrelationship between aesthetic intervention/experiment and radical social change across cultures, nations, regions, and movements. Preference will be given to the bilingual or multilingual candidate fluent in comparative modernist or contemporary literary projects from the Americas in addition to special knowledge of transnational/ interregional modernist or contemporary literary projects. The ideal candidate also must be devoted to the visionary redevelopment of arts and humanities within the 21st century public institution.

We welcome candidates who will excel in teaching at all levels in a thriving undergraduate program and a selective MFA program, that emphasizes cross-genre as the work of exploring a diverse intersectionality across artistic disciplines and cultural identities. Ideal applicants should have an accomplished record of publication, teaching, and service, as well as demonstrable interest in working within a world literature department with a focus on critical theory, social justice, and cultural, ethnic, and gender studies, where faculty members work in multiple languages, geographies, and historical periods.

The candidate will be expected to teach and supervise students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. In addition to specialized seminars, the successful candidate should be prepared to teach large enrollment introductory creative writing and comparative modernisms and/or contemporary transnational literature courses for non-majors. Furthermore, the candidate will be called upon to participate in the development of the Writing Section, including leadership of our unique cross-genre MFA program and administration of the New Writing Series. As such, desirable areas of additional expertise include translation, digital writing, intermedia, lyric essay, performance, or nontraditional formats.

Preferred candidates will have ample experience in the arena of equity and diversity, such as leadership in teaching, mentoring, research or service towards building an equitable and diverse scholarly and artistic environment and programs that foster inclusion and access for historically underrepresented groups. Proof of authorization to work in the U. S. will be required prior to employment (Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1985).
