Director, Division of Behavioral Health

Job Description: The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine, Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University, invites applications for an Associate Professor or Professor to serve as Director of Behavioral Health.

The Division Director will report directly to the Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine and will be a member of the senior leadership team within the Department.

The Division Director will work with other Clinical Division Directors, Training Program Directors, and the Department Administrator to recruit adequate numbers of competent staff to meet the needs of the Division.

The position emphasizes leadership, clinical care, teaching, and scholarship in the context of the department's mission-based functions.

The Director of the Behavioral Medicine Division shall provide all services customarily provided by a service line chief, including, but not limited to, the following: serve as the Chief Clinical Administrative Officer for the Division and, as such, provide clinical and administrative direction to the Division; work closely with the Department Chair to develop and update policies and procedures that will assure quality patient care, appropriate level of professional and technical staff and personnel, and review professional standards of practice of psychology within the Department; establish, assess, and ensure the competencies of the staff within the Division; oversee the range of services being offered by psychologists and other providers in the Division; maintain a peer review process; and evaluate the services being offered; oversee the practice of clinical health psychology in the Division including managing Division budget and assuring the fiscal viability of the Division; enhance relationships with private practice and other community-based psychologists and develop initiatives that encourage their continued involvement with the Department; mentor junior faculty members; provide direct clinical care; assist in the teaching and clinical supervision of medical students, residents, psychology students, and other learners; provide consultation for the clinical staff, when needed; initiate research projects and collaborate with other faculty members in conducting clinical research.

East Carolina University is the 3rd largest public university in North Carolina, with over 27,000 students and 6,000 faculty and staff. Greenville is a rapidly growing city of more than 84,000 persons in Pitt County (population 168,148). ECU Brody School of Medicine is affiliated with Vidant Medical Center, one of four academic medical centers in North Carolina. This 900+ bed academic medical center is a tertiary referral center and provides acute, intermediate, rehabilitation and outpatient health services to more than 1.4 million people in 29 counties.


Minimum Qualifications: Requirements include a PhD in Clinical or Health Psychology from a regionally accredited university with an APA-approved clinical or health psychology training program;

postdoctoral training in clinical health psychology or equivalent specialization via work experience;

evidence of credentialing by the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology OR evidence of eligibility for credentialing.

If not yet credentialed by the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology, credentialing will be expected in accordance with ECU Physicians Credentialing Plan;

full, unrestricted license to practice clinical psychology, as a health services provider, in the State of North Carolina OR eligibility for full, unrestricted licensure;

a minimum of five years of experience in provision of clinical services, administration, supervision, and leadership; and demonstrated experience in managing the practice of clinical psychology, including fiscal management.
