QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. required by the appointment start date with academic preparation in the humanities, arts or social sciences with an emphasis on Chicana/o Studies and Chicanx-Latinx communities. Required: 1.) Experience in Chicanx-Latinx community research and engagement, 2.) Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of multicultural populations, gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching or other comparable experience, 3.) Publications or strong potential for publications, and teaching experience appropriate to academic specialty. Preferred: 1.) Expertise in Cultural Production, Art, Performance Studies, Musicology, Folklore, Popular Culture, or other related areas, 2.) Knowledge of curriculum development in Chicana/o Studies, 3.) Evidence of both undergraduate and graduate mentoring, 4.) Successful grant writing skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES: This professor will: 1.) teach courses in Mexican American Studies at both the undergraduate and graduate levels that align with the applicant's training and interests; 2.) provide leadership in the development of the Cultural and Creative Expression emphasis in the department; 3.) support the development of the new undergraduate major through course development, advising, and the internship and capstone courses. This work will involve crossing disciplines and active engagement with diverse groups and individuals. Scholarly and professional contributions are expected for tenure and promotion. Responsibilities include developing and updating curricula, advising students, and serving on administrative and academic committees. The candidate must have experience and/or demonstrate the potential to address the needs of a diverse student population—in age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language, and academic preparation—through course materials, teaching strategies and advising.

SALARY RANGE: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

STARTING DATE: August 17, 2018
