Duties and Responsibilities | BASIC FUNCTION : Under direct supervision, perform routine research work in medical entomology and vector-borne disease ecology and evolution through the use of field research and laboratory experiments. The project centers on understanding the role of weather, landscape, and anthropogenic factors in influencing: 1) ecology and evolution of mosquitoes and ticks that transmit human pathogens, and, 2) the invasion dynamics of a Zika mosquito in New England. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : Under direct supervision, perform minor research work. Assist in performing routine research work or simple tests. Assist in DNA extraction and PCR of samples. Handle routine technical instruments required for performance of experiments. Handle routine data management. Assist in spatial mapping of research data in ArcGIS. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : Perform other duties as required. LICENSES , TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT : Personal computers, printers; word processing, database and spreadsheet software; relevant laboratory instruments; ArcGIS; R/R Studio. |
Required Qualifications | REQUIRED : 1. Bachelor's degree in Biology. 2. Minimum of one year's experience in biological science research relating to disease. 3. Demonstrated strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills. 4. Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills. 5. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations. |

Environmental Conditions | The incumbent is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions. The incumbent will be working in the field as well as the laboratory to set mosquito surveillance traps. |
