FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The Department of Public Management at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, City University of New York, seeks an exceptional senior scholar in Public Management (area of specialization open) with a demonstrated commitment to justice to serve as chair effective Fall 2018. The preferred candidate will be qualified for appointment as a full professor with tenure.  Exceptional senior associate professors may be considered. The chair is elected every three years by the department faculty. The position offers an opportunity to lead a versatile and accomplished department of 27 full-time and 40+ part-time members.

 

Our faculty play key roles as directors, coordinators, deputy chairs, and instructors for a broad array of undergraduate and graduate programs in Public Administration and in Accounting, including the Public Administration major, Criminal Justice Management major, the Fraud Examination and Financial Forensics major, the Advanced Certificate in Forensic Accounting, MPA program in Public Policy and Administration, and the MPA program in Inspection and Oversight.  The MPA programs are offered face-to-face and online. Faculty also teach and advise in various doctoral programs of the City University of New York’s Graduate Center.

 

John Jay College of Criminal Justice, a senior college of the City University of New York (CUNY), is an internationally recognized leader in educating for justice, committed to the advancement of justice and just societies. QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. degree in public administration or a closely related field at time of appointment is required. The successful candidate will have a record of outstanding scholarship and teaching excellence, with experience in academic administration as a department chair, deputy chair or program director. We seek a colleague who thrives in a multi-cultural setting and is committed to both access and excellence in higher education.  Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively are equally important. The successful candidate will have experience in the faculty personnel process and an ability to mentor and guide faculty successfully in the tenure and promotion processes.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Evidence of success in securing external funding, experience teaching adults, and experience with best practices for teaching online.
