ENVIRONMENTAL/OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH ASST. PROFESSOR

Job Description: The East Carolina University (ECU) Department of Public Health (DPH) of the Brody School of Medicine and the North Carolina Agromedicine Institute (NCAI) invite applicants for a joint Assistant Professor, twelve-month, tenure-track faculty position in environmental and occupational health. ECU is a constituent of the University of North Carolina and classified as Doctoral/Research-Intensive University. Located in Greenville, North Carolina, ECU is the third largest of the 16-campus University of North Carolina System.

The Department of Public Health offers a Masters of Public Health (MPH) degree program accredited by the Council for Education in Public Health (CEPH) with over 100 enrolled students. The Department is part of a strategic plan at ECU to establish a School of Public Health in the near future. A new Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) program with a concentration in environmental and occupational health has recently been established within the Department. The anticipated start date for admitting DrPH students is Spring 2018. The NCAI is a University of North Carolina inter-institutional institute whose partners are ECU, North Carolina State University, and North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.

The DPH has a robust research portfolio and provides opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration with faculty in the Schools of Medicine and Dentistry, Colleges of Nursing, Allied Health Sciences, Department of Health Education and Promotion, the NCAI and other programs across the campus. The University has strong community-based collaborations with clinics, health departments, and non-profit organizations in eastern North Carolina with the mission to reduce health disparities among rural and underserved populations. ECU seeks to attract an active, culturally and academically diverse faculty of the highest caliber, skilled in scholarship of teaching, service, discovery, application and integration of knowledge.

Duties: The successful candidate will contribute to the Department of Health Education and Promotion's bachelor and masters in environmental health (BSEH, MSEH) programs and the MPH and DrPH programs housed in the Department of Public Health, mentor students, conduct investigator-initiated research, and provide university, professional, and community service, consistent with tenure-track faculty members at ECU. Collaborative research opportunities will be available with NCAI institutions and other partners in the areas of Total Worker Health, One Health, epidemiology of emerging agents and a range of other activities that support the mission of the NCAI.

Minimum Qualifications: an earned doctorate in environmental/occupational health or the equivalent (CEPH-accredited Schools of Public Health graduates preferred).

Demonstrated commitment to research, teaching and service in environmental and occupational health.
