Job Summary:
The Education Studies Department of Skidmore College, a selective liberal arts college in Saratoga Springs, New York, invites applications for a full-time, tenure track Assistant/Associate Professor in Elementary Education/Literacy Methods position, beginning September 2018. We are particularly interested in candidates from under-represented backgrounds who can add to the diversity and excellence of our academic community through their teaching, scholarship, and service.

Premised on a constructivist approach to teaching and learning and with a commitment to social justice, faculty in the Education Studies Department prepare students for initial certification in New York State, grades 1-6. In addition, the Department's on-campus lab school, the Early Childhood Center (serving children ages 3-5), provides a resource for teaching and research opportunities.

The teaching load for this position is 5 courses each academic year. Expertise in elementary literacy education, including language acquisition and development and instructional methods for English language learners, is required. Teaching in the interdisciplinary First Year Experience will be required.

Competitive candidates will have teaching experience at the college and/or elementary school level, a robust commitment to undergraduate teacher education, and experience/ability in teaching and/or mentoring students from diverse backgrounds. A Ph.D. or Ed. D. in literacy education or a related field is required.

Desirable qualities in candidates may include demonstrated leadership, experience teaching methods coursework onsite in schools or community organizations, knowledge of the edTPA and other New York State certification requirements, and/or experience with CAEP accreditation.
