Position Description:
COMMUNICATION STUDIES: Two full-time, academic year, tenure-track Assistant Professors specializing in Interpersonal Communication in the Department of Communication Studies in the College of Liberal Arts at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, California, to begin September 13, 2018.

The department seeks scholars who will enrich our curriculum by improving our students' interpersonal communication competence in varied contexts. Teaching responsibilities will include some combination of Interpersonal Communication, Nonverbal Communication, Gender and Communication, Health Communication, Family Communication, Communication Theory, Research Methods, Public Speaking, Small Group Communication, Business and Professional Communication, Senior Project, and other courses as determined by applicant background and department need. The typical teaching load is 12 units per quarter, with correspondingly reasonable research/scholarship and service expectations and with a significant reduction in course load in the first one to two years to help establish an active program of research and professional development. Non-instructional duties include engaging in productive research and scholarship, service, and academic advising. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Applicants might have, but are not limited to, research interests in relational communication, privacy management, health communication, the dark side of interpersonal communication, social support, conflict management, compliance gaining and technologically-mediated relationships.

Candidates are expected to demonstrate a commitment to, or potential for, teaching excellence and scholarly/creative activity at the university level. Minimum Qualifications (Staff Only):


Required Qualifications:
An earned Ph.D. in Communication Studies or closely related discipline. Ph.D. candidates will be considered with degree completion expected by August 2018. The ideal candidate will provide evidence of a demonstrated commitment to research and scholarship. Coursework relevant to the instructional assignment is required as the minimum academic preparation. Evidence of successful university-level teaching is required.
