ASSOCIATE DEAN OF ACADEMIC AFFAIRS

Job Description: The Associate Dean of Academic Affairs reports to the Dean of the College of Allied Health Sciences and will assist in meeting the college's goals related to student success, faculty engagement, and program development.
The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs provides administrative leadership, oversight, planning, development, implementation, and evaluation and coordination of academic programs.

Specific responsibilities include:
a) Collaborates with college, university administrators and faculty curriculum committee in reviewing, modifying, enhancing, and marketing academic programs.
b) Provides leadership in curriculum development.
c) Collaborates with the Associate Dean for Research, Department Chairs, Program Directors, and technology staff in program evaluation and enhancement.
d) Assists the Dean with accreditation and other reports, as well as with strategic planning.
e) Leads initiatives to enhance the students' experience and support successful and timely program completion.
f) Provides recruitment oversight for academic personnel.
g) Assists the Dean with College of Allied Health Sciences event planning, including overseeing the annual Jean Mills Health Symposium.
h) Represents the College of Allied Health Sciences on the ECU Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Engagement Council.
i) Serves as the College of Allied Health Sciences liaison with the community and clinical partners and responds to community needs relevant to professional education in the allied health sciences.
j) Serves as the College of Allied Health Sciences liaison to ECU Institutional Assessment, Faculty 180, and the Office of Academic Program Planning and Development and oversees faculty credentialing.
k) Administers university and college academic policies and procedures.
l) Participates in student and faculty recruitment, and oversees management of appointment, reappointment, tenure and promotion of faculty in accord with the East Carolina University Faculty Manual.
m) Collaborates with the Office of the Dean, Department Chairs, Program Directors, faculty and staff to support internal and external communication of College of Allied Health Sciences information and activities.
n) Supervises the activities of the College of Allied Health Sciences University Program Associate (for Special Events and Communications).
o) Promotes and maintains effective working relationships with College of Allied Health Sciences standing committees.
p) Provides a liaison function in the management of resources related to academic programs.
q) Provides oversight to ensure compliance with university policies and requirements of external agencies.
r) Provides academic counseling and conflict resolution for College of Allied Health Sciences students as appropriate.
s) Serves as a designee representing the Dean as requested.
t) Completes other assignments as requested by the Dean.


Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must have an earned doctorate or equivalent terminal degree in an allied health sciences field and a strong record of executive-level academic administrative experience that demonstrates leadership and planning skills. A distinguished record of teaching, scholarship, and service that is commensurate with appointment to senior academic rank with tenure and a demonstrated understanding of the role and mission of public higher education is required. Candidates should have an understanding of contemporary intellectual issues as well as an awareness of social realities and current social changes. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills; a management style that is collegial, consultative; and a demonstrated commitment to share governances is required.
