Service Assistant - Brite

Job Title: Service Assistant - Brite Job Number: 2017-165 Department: Brite Housing - 12960 Job Description:

Salary: $10.76/hr

Job Summary: The Service Assistant is responsible for performing specialized cleaning and general maintenance services.

Duties and Essential Job Functions:

Maintains buildings by dusting and polishing furniture, equipment, mirrors and fixtures; cleaning windows, counters, walls and woodwork; sweeping, scrubbing and finishing floors; cleaning blinds, furniture and carpeting; supplying and cleaning rest rooms, showers, and kitchens; changing linens, providing laundry services; setting up and arranging furniture. Prepares vacant apartments for incoming residents and guests.

Removes trash by emptying and maintaining trash containers; transporting materials to disposal area; recycling materials.

Maintains safe working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.

Monitors assets by inventorying supplies and equipment; following manufacturer's recommendation for equipment maintenance; identifying and reporting problems with building, equipment, or supplies to supervisor; securing keys and property.

Supports operations by training new employees as needed; providing adequate coverage. Provides support and assists as needed in the implementation of plans and procedures in the event of an emergency.

Maintains staff confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.

Performs other related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
This is a part time position
Required Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1 year of cleaning experience.


Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:
  • Satisfactory results from a post-offer physical examination.
  • Valid Texas driver's license, when required by position.
  • Must be insurable under the university motor vehicle requirements.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of specialized cleaning techniques.
  • Knowledge of basic customer service techniques.
  • Knowledge of scheduling techniques.
  • Ability to clearly communicate verbally.
  • Ability to operate specialized job-related equipment to perform the job.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Ability to train and lead staff.
  • Ability to perform quality control inspections.
  • Ability to work independently and may include serving as a leader for part-time staff and non-permanent employees.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population and is service oriented, meeting customer service standards by working courteously and cooperatively with residents, guests, faculty, and staff.


Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations):
  • Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
  • Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
  • Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
  • Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
  • Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 10 lbs.


Work Environment:
  • Work is indoors/outdoors and not sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
  • There are no harmful environmental conditions present for this job.
  • The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
