Temporary Theatre Technician



Function:
Provide technical support for Elgin Community College theater productions and events, including scenery, lighting, sound and stage set-up; maintain and clean theaters and equipment used in the making of productions.

Essential Responsibilities:
1. Hang, circuit, focus and color stage lighting equipment
Operate computerized and manual lighting consoles
Operate follow spots

2. Execute specific event setups including but not limited to:
Set up and shifting of scenery
Set up of orchestra shell, risers, chairs, podiums and stands
Lobby setups including tables, chairs and banners

3. Execute specific stage rigging requirements:
Hang and properly weight flying scenery, draperies, banners and backdrops
Operate counterweight fly system

4. Execute specific sound requirements:
Set up of microphones, speakers, playback and recording decks
Operation of mixing consoles, CD, DAT and minidisc players/recorders

5. Execute specific running crew requirements for rehearsals and performances:
Wardrobe management/dressing
Properties management
Light console and/or follow spot operator
Sound operator
Stage hand

6. Loading and unloading of lumber, scenery and stage equipment for all events.

7. Construction and painting of stage scenery for college productions.

8. Interact with users and patrons of the Arts Center in a professional and efficient manner.

Essential Responsibilities Continued:
1. May use a truck and/or other machines to deliver/remove scenery and equipment.

2. Operate light board during rehearsals, techs and performances.

3. Operate sound board during rehearsals, techs and performances.

4. May require a valid Illinois driver's license.

5. Perform other job-related duties as assigned which pertain to the job description.

Other Responsibilities:
1. Maintenance and repair of tools and stage equipment.
2. Cleaning and organization of theatres.
3. Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
4. Related duties as assigned by the technical director.

Physical Demands:
Position requires visual acuity to perform activities (i.e. operates machines where the seeing job is at or within arm's reach; performs mechanical or skilled trades tasks of a non-repetitive nature).

Position requires visual acuity to operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment.

Position requires visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned (i.e. custodial, food services, general labor, etc.) or to make general observations of facilities or structures (i.e. security, inspection, etc.).

Work Environment: Loud noise

Environmental Conditions: Outdoor weather conditions. Vibration. Exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities or whole body. Hazards. (Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to radiation, or exposure to chemicals). Fumes or airborne particles (Includes fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases or poor ventilation).

Required Qualifications:
1. Associate's degree (AA) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

2. One year prior experience as a theater technician.

Desired Qualifications:
1. Basic knowledge of all facets of technical theatre, including lighting, sound, rigging and set construction is preferred. On the job training for new personnel is offered.
2. Some college experience preferred.
3. Some technical theatre experience preferred.
