Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Circulation and User Services Manager, participate in the activities of the circulation/reserve desks in a highly automated and fast-paced service environment. The Assistant will oversee all circulation desk activities during evenings as scheduled, supervise student assistants staffing the desk, coordinate the physical maintenance of library collections, prepare materials to be placed on reserve, and assist library users with basic reference, information, and technology questions.
The position is available July 2017. The review of applications will begin on June 19th and will continue until the position is filled.

Education/Skills Requirements

High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Strongly Preferred: College degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Also required: Outstanding interpersonal, supervisory, and written and oral communication skills; strong customer service orientation and ability to work with a diverse group of people; excellent organizational and problem-solving skills; attention to detail; must be able to work independently and in a team environment; proven technology skills and use of a broad range of software applications.

Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents

A minimum of one year of library, customer service, or related experience. Preferred: Experience working at a library circulation desk and with an automated circulation system; experience supervising and training student employees.

Standard Work Days and Hours

35 hours/week, year round position. Sunday - Thursday evenings during academic-year, shift typically begins at 6:00 p.m. and extends to midnight, 1:30 a.m. or 2:30 a.m. (dependent on library hours of operation). Daytime hours, Monday-Friday 8:30am - 5:00pm are required when classes are not in session.
