STUDENT AFFAIRS CASE MANAGER

Job Description: This is a unique and specialized position which blends the functions of non-clinical student consultation, program coordination of student referrals and intake, systems development for reporting and maintenance of student cases, and leadership in addressing factors which contribute to student attrition and improve student academic success.

This position coordinates the university's process for addressing the needs of students who have crisis with academic, family, health, and other issues through providing referrals, follow-up services and when necessary withdrawal the student from the university; serves as the primary communicator to academic deans and designees, health care and mental health providers, staff and parents relative to students requiring university withdrawal and/or in need of additional/other resources to succeed at East Carolina University; collects, reviews, coordinates and manages the student cases that come to the Dean of Students Office through ECU Cares, mainly the Care Team and University Behavioral Concerns Team.

The Student Affairs Case Manager reports directly to the Assistant Dean of Students.


Minimum Qualifications: The successful candidate must have a Bachelor's degree in Child Development and Family Relations, Psychology, Social Work or related field and 5 years of university experience. The candidate must have excellent problem solving and conflict resolution skills, strong organizational and administrative skills, strong interpersonal communication skills, ability to thoroughly document conversations and actions regarding case management, excellent written and verbal communication skills, team building skills, the ability to build positive and effective relationships across the campus and community, a strong commitment to diversity, ability to work independently with minimal supervision, ability to manage multiple tasks, ability to work evenings and weekends as needed, knowledge of legal issues in higher education, and ability to provide exemplary customer service. The candidate must have experience interacting with the public, parents, students and faculty.
