Summary of Position Management and maintenance of the Ceramics facility within the Sculpture and Functional Art Program. Support Sculpture and Functional Art faculty, continuing studies courses, and various programs and initiatives within the college which enhance student learning. This is a part-time position with a maximum of 28 hours per week. Weekly schedule will be set by the program based on class need. Therefore, the position may not be scheduled for hours, or scheduled for reduced hours, during the summer months and other semester breaks.

Required Qualifications
Required Education Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.
Required Work Experience At least two years experience working in a ceramics facility required.
Previous work experience maintaining and repairing related equipment.
Working knowledge of tools, technology, and materials of a ceramics and sculpture facility. Knowledge of and experience implementing safety regulations/protocols as related to the studio and equipment.

Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered MFA degree in the visual arts; experience managing academic facilities; familiarity with managing a ceramics facility in relation to the academic environment, including electric kiln and gas kiln repair, operation of gas and electric kilns, and upkeep of ceramics studio materials inventory.

Duties Implement safety standards and work with facilities staff to insure protocols.
Address curricular needs relative to equipment/tooling and supplies.
Support instructional activities.
Provide oversight of student employees.
Provide recommendation for student employee placement.
Assign schedules, work assignments, and monitor work-flow of student employees.
Provide training; address safety, security and operational protocol.
Provide and serve as an open channel for communication between faculty, students, and student employees to ensure instructional expectations are met.
Oversee and order all supplies and materials necessary for programmatic and facility needs.
Maintain and repair equipment; including kiln maintenance and upkeep of consumable supplies such as clay and glaze materials.
Provide instructional support for faculty.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities Responsible for the ongoing maintenance of tools and equipment, providing a safe and organized learning environment and maintaining supplies and materials to ensure efficiency of the studio. Contribute to and maintain educational resource displays, safety signage, ceramics database, and the studio handbook.
Required Physical Abilities
Required Physical Abilities Must be able to lift fifty pounds on a regular basis and be able to climb a ladder of over 6 ft.
Required Skills and Abilities
Required Skills and Abilities Proficiency in the operation of all types of ceramics studio equipment including clay mixers and puggers, casting slip mixers, wheels, electric and gas kilns.
Proficiency in computing skills such as using spreadsheet software, imaging software, etc.
Proficient knowledge of clay and glaze chemistry.
Knowledge and experience with electric, gas, and atmospheric firing processes.
