The President is the Chief Executive Officer of the university and is responsible for the entire university and its effective functioning. The Office of the President is committed to the pursuit of academic excellence, student success, service, and community partnership through innovative leadership and collaboration. As stewards of Cal Poly, and in alliance with campus constituents, the presidential staff supports the vision of the university president and the 'Learn by Doing' educational experience.
The President's immediate office staff include: Associate Vice President & Chief of Staff, Executive Director of Administrative Operations, Executive Assistant to the President, Executive Assistant to the Chief of Staff, Assistant for Presidential Events and Programs and Administrative Assistant for Communications & Records.
Reporting directly to the Associate Vice President & Chief of Staff, the purpose of this position is to act independently as assistant to the president on the president's professional calendar, time management, travel and schedule, president's projects, represent the president in the planning of selected events, including coordination of special events, and facilitate presidential initiatives and programs. The Executive Assistant to the President supports the administrative duties of the Office of the President and is the primary liaison for the President's spouse for the coordination of calendar and interactions on behalf of the university. This position will have access to a variety of resources to perform duties that normally require access to confidential information including that which directly relates to official collective bargaining negotiations or strategy and executive personnel matters.

Minimum Qualifications (Staff Only):
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university. Five years of progressively responsible administrative experience as secretary, executive secretary or senior level staff assistant. A graduate degree may be substituted for one year of the required experience. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for occasional professional development.
Must be able to work additional hours, occasional holidays, and adjust working hours to meet special jobs. May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on an emergency basis.

This position classification has been defined as "Exempt" and is not subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
Retired CalPERS members selected for this vacancy must request and be approved for reinstatement from retirement prior to the start date. Employment of retired CalPERS members will typically be for 90 days or less and must be for work requiring specialized skills or for a bona fide emergency to prevent stoppage of business.
May be required to complete a Supplemental Employment Application Questionnaire, which contains questions pertaining to conviction history, and submit it when requested by Cal Poly. This disclosure is confidential and will not necessarily preclude applicants from employment.
