Job Description: The College of Education is currently seeking an individual to serve as a University Lab School Teacher to serve in a classroom at grades 2, 3, or 4 within the East Carolina University Lab School. The position is an eleven-month, full-time, EHRA non faculty position in the College of Education. The ECU Lab School will be housed at the off-campus lab school site. Teachers at the Lab School report to the ECU Lab School Principal.

As an educator within the East Carolina University School, the teacher will cultivate a culture of innovation that supports effective instructional practices/strategies to promote student academic and personal success for all students in the school. The Teacher will work collaboratively with others to facilitate and implement innovative instruction to achieve the mission of the school. The teacher will work collaboratively with the ECU Lab School Principal and university faculty/staff to support the successful social-emotional, physical, and academic development of the students within.
Responsibilities:

-- Demonstrate leadership to motivate effective learning practices and to strive for superior student performance
-- Facilitate the broad goals of the school and plan accordingly and collaboratively with other teachers, the ECU Lab School Principal, the University School liaison and ECU faculty members to ensure that procedures and schedules are implemented to carry out the total lab school program.
-- Cultivate leadership in students and families.
-- Actively participate in professional development offered within the Lab School and beyond
-- Serve as an advocate for her/his students through implementation of innovative strategies and integration of a variety of support services such that each student's social, emotional, physical and academic potential can be maximized.
-- Maximize the interconnectedness of curricular areas within her/his classroom to meet the needs of diverse learners.
-- Effectively assess students through a variety of methods to determine appropriate instructional strategies and learning environments.
-- Seek to connect students and their families with appropriate services embedded within the Lab School's integrated network of partners who will provide service and support for non-academic issues that impact student learning.

-- Engage in and enhance meaningful collaboration and relationships amongst school and community stakeholders.
-- Actively engage in ongoing communication with parents to ensure they are informed about their child's progress within the school and to ensure families are aware of school resources available for their child and their family.
-- Work collaboratively with university staff to ensure accessibility to students needed to conduct research.
-- Receive visitors within her/his classroom for the purpose of instruction, assistance, research, and observation (which will include being observed, video-taping, and interviews).

Teachers hired will be eligible to participate in the Master's of Education (MAED) Fellows Program. Teachers will have the opportunity to complete coursework leading toward a master's or doctoral degree at no cost to include coverage of tuition and fees. MAED Fellows will, in return, agree to teach within a low-wealth school within Pitt County for each year of funds received.


Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in elementary education; excellent oral and written communication skills; and evidence of skill in working with at risk student populations. Qualifying degrees must be conferred and received from appropriately accredited institutions. A current North Carolina teaching license is required.
