CONTEXT OF THE JOB:

The University of Delaware's Office of Development & Alumni Relations (DAR) is building a model fundraising infrastructure, one that will meet the growing needs of the University in support of the overall strategic plan. It is our mission to engage donors, alumni, friends, parents, faculty, staff and students in a lifelong relationship and foster a tradition of philanthropy to strengthen the University's legacy as one of the great public institutions of higher education in America.

Under the general direction of the Director of Prospect Management, Research and Analysis, the Senior Development Research Analyst conducts detailed research using on-line databases, internet resources and internal databases to analyze, interpret and disseminate financial, biographical and historical information on existing and prospective donors to the University.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Proactively and independently, plan and execute creative strategies to identify sources of major gift private support using creative research techniques and electronic searching methodologies to ensure that fundraising initiatives have sufficient prospects to meet fundraising goals.
  • Provide high-level research on individuals using a wide variety of biographical, organizational and financial sources, including online database services, Internet websites and other external repositories of public information.
  • Analyze and synthesize accumulated information to assess financial capacity, philanthropic tendencies, giving propensity and linkages to the University.
  • Compose profiles, briefings and reports using style, grammar and content appropriate to specific audiences. Interpret and translate complex financial into easily comprehensible terms while adhering to University standards of discretion and confidentiality.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree (preferably in social science, psychology, or related research-based, quantitative discipline) and three years related experience; experience in research and data management, preferably in a fundraising setting; must be highly driven, detail-and results-oriented; experience using a wide range of electronic and print resources, including commercial databases and the Internet, with high proficiency in sophisticated searching; ability to draw conclusions and make recommendations based on research data findings; proficiency in analyzing statistical data and generating reports; organizational skills with ability to handle several projects simultaneously to meet various deadlines; ability to work and communicate effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
